I shot a bird last night and was gutting it, and my usual technique of ripping the breast from the rest of the carcass proved more difficult than normal. Usually it takes just about all my strength to rip it apart, but it always comes apart. This bird, which was not a large one, seemed a bit harder than normal. So I put everything I had into it and it tore loose. I felt sharpness in my finger when it came loose and looked down and the damn thing had cut me. This is not good considering that it was blood covered bone which had sliced me.
I guess the pellet had hit part of the breast bone, shattering it into a half dozen razor sharp pieces. I was fortunate that the wound wasn't deep and that I was right by the sink so I immediately washed my hands and disinfected it. I'm sure it'll be okay, but its scary to think that an animals blood could make it into my blood stream. |

I usually recite the line from Saving Private Ryan when the sniper is in the bell tower taking out the Germans below. "My goodness and my fortress; my hightower and my deliverer; my shield and He in whom I trust." |

I don't think I'll be shooting too many more worm eaters since the tree uprooting, although I don't think doves eat worms any way. But keep saying it if you want. |

Back in Indiana we had Giant Woodpeckers. They were apparently a different breed because there were also regular size wood peckers too. The giant ones were like crows in that they were nearly impossible to kill with an airgun. If you got anywhere near them they'd see you and take off. I've never killed anything larger than a pigeon with an airgun, though I've tried.

Didn't I say that to you once Joe? |
