Just recieved my first pest control request of the season.
I will see if I can photograph anything and post images.

I'm going with an ex-cop who is reputed to be a crack shot
with a combustion gun. He says that he's never shot high
performance air before. It's going to be fun watching him try
to get some accuracy out of my springers.

And then I'll haul out the Condor (more law enforcement
buy Airforce than any other brand) and let him try it out past
100 yards.

Just make sure he knows that the Condor IS the best of the best when he shoots it.

CW, do you get paid to shoot the critters or do you do it just to hunt?

Usually I get paid. Some I'll do for free.
Some farmers are real happy to pay and
are happy to see my truck coming up the drive.

Some times there are freebies. Free camping
and land use during business and non business
times. Produce from farmers. Maybe even some
frankincense and mirth some times.

I'm really into big bore dirt bikes and a lot of them
will let me open it up if I keep to the roads and paths.

It was a great hunt. I bagged 52 rockchucks, 2 feral cats
and made $50 doing it. My friend shot 37 rockchucks.
He was so impressed with the Condor that when we got
home he ordered one and a nice scope.
After letting him shooting it and showing him on line how it is the
most chosen airgun among law enforcement, he had to have one.

Sorry, no photos. The owner did not want any photos taken
of anything being killed. I don't know why, but a lot of people
that I do pest control for are that way.

I bet that condor makes short work of those rock chucks. Why did the property owner want them exterminated?

Yeah, I was using 21.6 gn Kodiaks at 900-980 fps for
an average of 40 fpe. They just drop without a twitch.

They were undermining the foundation of several buildings
and had already brought one down. So they had to be stoped.

Middle of the head if I can. Body shot otherwise.
Most would say that I am cold hearted, but if
pests suffer it's not that big of a deal to me.

I mean, if I am concerned about how much hornets
or rockchucks suffer I might as well hang it up.

I am way more concerned with human suffering.

Yeah, I think the ethical way to hunt is to at least try to render a lethal kill and finish off any wounded animals in short order. A hunter is a killer, and when you kill, you are inflicting damage to a living thing. That being said, pain is probably going to be involved. In that sense, all hunters are cold hearted, since they know that the animals they kill will more than likely feel pain.

But even if they don't feel pain and you get an instant kill. They are still dead. It's not like your doing the animal any favors by taking its life, even if you do it painlessly.

I have suffered quite a bit of pain doing pest control.
Especially during wasp, yellow jacket and hornet season
and have battled the worst pest control nightmare,
baldfaced hornets. they look like a gigantic black and
white, yellow jacket.

They not only have a very nasty sting, but also bit hard
enough to tear tiny chunks of bleading flesh out of you
while they are stinging.
They are also extremely protective of their home.
There is a very simple and easy trick to get rid of them
though.

How do you kill them? A water hose?

No. Water would definately be out. That would just spread
them aroud and really piss them off. I wouldn't want to be
around when it happened.

First off, wait untill it is completely dark. That way all of the
colony members will be home and not able to fly.

Then if it is in a bush or on a tree branch, engulf or encapsulate
it in a couple of large garbage bags, one inside of the other,
and then tie the end very securely. Take some expanding
crack sealant foam and make sure that the end you tied is
sealed. Then cut, snip, saw or what ever it takes to remove it.

If it is an iternal nest, I have some very toxic stuff that I put
where they enter and let them track it in and slowly poison the
whole colony for a few days. Then, by law, I have to take the
structure apart and remove the poisoned colony and either
remove or neutralize any poison residue that I can find. So
sometimes I get a remodeling job. Especially if it is in a
habitable dwelling.

That would work. Although I can't imagine messing with a hornets nest (of all things) when its pitch black out. Kind of like picking up broken glass in the dark. But I'm sure you have a good method figured out for it anyhow.

I've destroyed a number of bee and wasp colonies in my day. I liked the hose because you can spray the air around you making an impenetrable force field that they can't fly through. So when they send their fighters out to attack, they just get shot down.

Used rocks to knock the hive out of a tree once and gas to poisen THEN burn them out of a planter in the front yard. Then last year they had just started to form a colony right by my back door using the slots in the siding of the house to squeeze in under the windows. I went ahead and got the hot glue gun and sealed the ones that were already inside in there for eternity, which then blocked all the ones from outside from returning. Never had a problem since.

Things that fly don't do good around me, if you hadn't deduced that yet.
