Hi everyone, this is my first (maybe second post) and am looking for some advice.
I want a .177 cal air pistol to take with me to my hunting camp. This will be used just for plinking during my down time or for taking out a mouse or two at our camp. I want a small quality pistol that is easy to carry and no CO2. I really like the Wembley Tempest but was wondering if you had experience with it or would recommend another.
Great forums by the way!
Thanks! |

A Crosman 1377 comes to mind. |

Yea, it is a good gun, I had it a long time ago. I was looking for something a bit smaller.
Thanks |

I don't own one, but the Webley guns have a long-standing positive reputation.
The P17 has a large frame, but not nearly as long as the 1377. A lot like a baby eagle. Don't be put off by the $40 price tag - it's a lot of gun for the money. The P17 is a Chinese clone of the German HW40 (Beeman P3), which costs $200 more. I'm sure the German gun is better quality, but I doubt it has $200 more accuracy or power. My Marksman 2004 (earlier name for the P17) is several years old now, and works great.
It's about as accurate as my Crosman 2240. If you use the rule of thumb of one F.P.E. per pound of animal, the P17's 3 F.P.E. will kill up to a 3 pound mouse.
It's the gun I take travelling. Stick it in a soft-sided pistol case with a tin of pellets and you're all set. |

Ok cool, I did not realize the Crosman 2240 was a pump. I like Crosman and have always liked their quality. Ok, so its a toss up between the Crosman 2240 and the Webley. I know there is a huge price difference. So you are happy with the 2240? |

Actually the 2240 is powered by CO².

Hmmm, ok - looks like I am going with the Webley then. Its not like I am picking it up tomorrow, so I have time to do some more searching around.
Thank you! |

Yeah, taking your time and researching before buying is
usually the best way to go. |

That is a BB-only gun, and VERY low-power- you won't be hitting anything beyond 5 yards and it won't kill mice- look at something that shoots pellets and can at least get to 400fps. |

Its made by the same people who make the Dan Wessen BB series of guns. Very well made and fully working but the accuracy is some thing to be desired
