Just recently joined the forum. Getting back into airguns after many years.
Looking for information on using air guns on your own property. I've checked all the local and state ordinances and see nothing to specific but before I contact the local police and possibly stir up a hornets nest I was wondering if anyone here might have information. |

I would say this and it is by no means law of the land as I am not a lawyer.
I used to live out in in the Capital District of NY(Clifton Park) and used to shoot out my backdoor a bit. My neighbors didnt have a problem with it so I guess that is where I was ok. When I was living there you could hunt with anything putting out 600FPS which loosely made it a firearm and the state rule is 500 feet from the nearest dwelling with each city/village/township having the ability to make it a shorter distance. I know alot of the cities and more densely populated areas will have no discharge laws in the city limits, but they say if you dont get caught your not breaking the law. Id check the books, most cities have ordiances listed on their site and if you dont find it on there and are still concerned I would ask someone in authority. Most rural areas wont mind as long as you have a solid backstop and meet the state requirements for distance. |
