| A decent quality multi pump that reaches its max in 3 or 4 pumps over 500 fps? |

| There are single-stroke pneumatics (Daisy's) that will do 500+ fps in one stroke out-of-the-box, but virtually every multi-stroke I've seen needed at least a half-dozen pumps to get to 500+ fps. That being said, a flat-top piston in such a gun would reduce the number of pumps required to get to that output. |

A single stroke pneumatic isnt a springer? You can see I'm new to this stuff.

There are a few serious shooters Like the Daystates and Japanese Sharps rifles that would produce about 30fpe with 8 strokes, but like AirGunEric said, many match rifles were designed to shoot 575fps with one.
The Walther LGR is one example, and changed the game with its accuracy. Often the pneumatic match rifles state ctc accuracy as .010" but the 10 shot test targets look and measure like a single caliber opening.

One stroke of compressed air? Not a springer though right? Am I understanding you guys right? How would a new shooter know the difference when shopping for one? |

If you ever come over to the Netherlands, you're going to sell me one of those guns. |

Yes- one stroke of compressed air- no mainspring for power. Look here for a glossary of airgun terms: http://www.airgunhome.com/pages/glossary.html
When you are looking at different airguns (ads, store, however) you should be able to see the type of "powerplant"- which could be spring, PCP (pre-charged pneumatic- i.e. compressed air tank/reservoir), Co2 (carbon dioxide canisters/tanks), MSP (multi-stroke pneumatic- i.e. multi-hand-pumps to get it powered up) and SSP (single-stroke pneumatic- one pump to power it up).
Here is an example of an SSP gun: http://www.pyramydair.com/cgi-bin/model.pl?model_id=1000
Click on the "Click here for specifications" button to see what type of powerplant it uses. Same thing for other guns to verify how they are powered. |
