Was plinking long the other day. Had to click down 80 and scope still needed more to go past 100 yards. at 125, I was maxed out on scope, and still aiming a full soda can high.
so , does anyone make a scope with drop , to match caliber, or gun?
My psl scope, posp, has yardage to match 762 54R ballistics. Mine is 4 year old Hawke.. Any updates? or better scopes with dots down to bottom? |

The typical method is to sight in at the top of the trajectory using the top MilDot (ie the bottom end of the upper post).... That doubles the number of usable MilDots.... You may need to shim the scope mount to accomplish that.... Depending on the velocity, that will put you at about 50-60 yards at the top post, 125-150 yards at the middle, and 200ish yards at the bottom post at about 9-10X.... You can also sight in using the top of the bottom post at the longest range you want to shoot (eg. 125 yards).... and then simply find out which dots you have to use at close ranges....
Using a lower magnification also works.... If you run out of dots at 9X, dropping it to 3X will triple the available drop at the bottom post.... I know it's counter-intuitive, but if you think 3X at 125 yards is too low, talk to the snipers who use 10X (for true MilDots) at 2500 yards.... Incidently, a pop can at 100 yards is a torso size target at 600....
