EVERYONE WELLCOME
Target to download and print: Month 181; May l 1 > May 31 /2013
1)Print to full-size on an A4 or 8.5"x11" sheet of paper.
2) Shooting distance is 5m/16.4ft for pistols.
3) Shooting distance is 10m/32.8ft for rifles.
3a) The rules for shooting 5m or 10 m are that the distance from the target to the firing line should be 10m for rifle and 5m for pistol.
All shots, from whatever shooting position must be made with the competitor wholly behind the firing line but able to touch it.
Basically the shooter should be behind the line but the part of the gun not being held by the shooter can protrude past the line.
4) All targets to be shot standing
5) Any sighting device may be used.
6) NO rests or steadying aids are allowed.
7) 14 shots total, 1 per target maximum. Up to 5 sighting/practice shots not on the clock using the Green Dot
8) 15 minutes total time (take whatever amount of time for each shot you like, but at 15 minutes-stop!).
9) Scoring is 10 for Red, 5 for a White surround. Only one hit per target counts. Maximum point count is 150.
10) Entries need to be scanned or photographed and posted. Please list gun, pellet, sighting device and total time expended.
11) You can enter using both a pistol and a rifle as separate entries, only one entry for each, but all rules must be followed.
12) Score your own target. Winner and Runner-Up will be verified by board officials.
13) An honourable contest for sport- to lie or cheat, is the only real loser. Please keep it above-board!
14) Each competition runs from Monday to Sunday. Your entry must be posted in the forum no later than 23:00 on the last day.
15) These rules are for this week's shooting competition and may change for others
16) Please state whether you are using a pistol or rifle
17) The Green dot is 12mm dia.

Hi Al,
Thanks for your persistence in posting these challenges - I know it can seem a bit thankless when there isn't much response.
A couple of questions - for scoring, does it count if the pellet just touches the scoring zone or does it have to be entirely in the zone, or maybe centre of pellet in the zone?
And the other question is about rule 11. I was just wondering if it was worth relaxing the "only one entry" part to encourage people to post early in the month, knowing that they can always post a better score later on? Or maybe to show their results with different guns even though only the highest score counts overall? |

Hi
The scoring for marking purposes is that if it is just touching the line then it is counted, as for multiple entries a few years ago we allowed that and it made it very complicated sorting who had done what.
I think people will shoot when there is more money about, and they can afford to change guns more often.

7 minutes, 135 points, using a Pardini K10 PCP pistol and RWS Hobby pellets. Still shaky like I said earlier today when shooting the April target, but what the heck, I can't resist a challenge. Shot cold (didn't read the bit about sighting on the green dot until just now) and started with the biggest dots, working my way down to the smallest last.

OK, I'm in. I was a lot slower at 13 minutes, but some of that was messing around with the sights after the first few shots seemed to be trending right.
Pistol
Crosman 2240/177
Red dot sight
Crosman super match
130/150
Slightly amusing footnote - a red dot sight isn't the best choice against a red target. I switched over to green dot halfway through, even though I don't normally like the green, and it seemed to help. |

Nice shooting! And yeah, that is funny about the red dot. You'd be about as helpless with a red laser for aiming. Reminds me of some old SF short story read long ago, where someone used coloured armour to defend against laser weapons. |

Nice job Vitaly. I should have held off posting until I managed a better score |
