Hi Guys,

Well technically my guns haven't been away in storage but more like sitting on a shelf in a closet in my spare room under a towel for about 6 months. Should I do anything as far as oiling them?

I put a small drop of chamber oil in the compression port on my crosman phantom and quest. I also used two small drops of non detergent 20wt motor oil in the oil holes on my daisy bb guns as per the manual. I also oiled the few spots on my pumpmaster 760 with pellgunoil.

When finished I wiped them all down with a silicone cloth. Does this all sound good? I dint do anything with the barrel's as I don't think they need a cleaning.

Thanks

Jeremy

Crosman pumpers like to be stored with 2-3 pumps in them.

Really? I have never stored my pumpmaster with some air in it. I have had it for 20 years now so I guess It hasn't harmed it Smile

I try to store mine with a couple pumps in them. The reasoning is that it keeps the exhaust valve closed up tight and sealed. I've read this suggestion more than a few times, apparently it is recommended in some Crosman owners manuals. It makes sense to me so I do it.
EDIT:
So I started thinking I don't remember ever reading in a Crosman owners manual to store the gun with an air charge in it. So I did a quick search of pumper manuals on the Crosman web sight and every one I read said to store the gun empty. I'm not sure why I never checked that before, but I feel a little wiser now. I will continue to store my pumpers with a couple pumps in them as it makes sense to me.

Hi Guys

Kind of a bump. I was just wondering is rust unlikely in the barrels of my phantom and quest rifles? I haven't really used them much in the last year. I keep them in my spare bedroom which is climate controlled ( Heat and Central air ) I don't see anything looking down the barrels so I'm assuming that there fine. Would the lead from the pellets have stopped any rusting if it were to have happen.

Again they have been kept indoors and not in a damp shed or garage.

Actually just read oddtodd response in this thread

http://www.airgunhome.com/agforum/viewtopic.php?t=9516

I didnt shoot them a whole lot and still get a bit of that oil vapor ( as I did when they were new a couple years ago ) so Im assuming between that and the lead from the pellets I should be ok. Heck my dads old break barrel rifle that he would leave in the barn for years still has no rust on the inside of the barrel. It doesnt have much power these days as its from the 60's but is still accurate, lol

Sounds good to me. Instead of a silicone cloth I use a soft paint brush and a little Armor-All (Armor-All is emulsified silicone). You keep brushing until the silicone dries and gets buffed out with the bristles. It cleans out the little spots that a cloth won't reach, and is especially good for renewing plastic and rubber. Once you use a brush with Armor-All, don't use it for paint - the silicone messes up adhesion and you get fish eyes.

What I've read is that it depends on the valve. If the exhaust valve is held open after discharge, over time contaminants could float in. My Sheridan is like that - the hammer spring overcomes the exhaust valve spring if there's no pressure. One pump and it stays shut.
