I'm researching QB78s, and it says that you get 600 good shots from a 9 oz CO2 bottle, but only about 220 from a regular pump-tank thing. Besides the inconvenience of having to go to the mall to get my tanks filled, are there any real downsides to using CO2?

You might be talking about the QB79. They are the ones with the paintball tanks. I have a QB79 and I love it. The bad thing about co2 is that they don't do well in cold weather. Another thing is finding a tank that will fit a stock QB79. The tank can be no bigger than 2" in diameter. You can get an adapter to solve that. It sure beats changing co2 carts all the time though.

As Ern says there is a bit of a difference between the 78 and the 79
The tank screws directly onto the 79. Convenient but I'm not fond of the look.
The 78 is bulked through a paintball tether filling the maintube. I like this look better and that's how I run mine.
A qb will get 30 shots consistently from one 12 gram caplet. Thus from 9oz of CO2 you should be able to get about 600 shots. ....IF you don't over cycle the CO2
I use a 20oz that's now on it's 4rth tin.
The beauty of bulking the QB 78 is you can switch back and forth between CO2 and HPA like the disco does. |

My dumb *** finally watched a video of one of these things, and saw how they take 2 little CO2 caplets. That's pretty neat. I could deal with that, if it doesn't get too expensive too fast...

I use the CO2 caplets in all of my pistols. They don't get too bad if you buy them at walmart. You can get 20 for like 10.48. Not a bad deal if you ask me!
