I had a Daisy 840 when I was a boy, and our son, who is 11, has used and enjoyed it. I am wanting to get him his own bb gun for Christmas, however, and wondered about the Daisy 840 vs. the Crosman 2100.

1. Does anyone have any thoughts about the comparison of these two?

2. Does anyone have any other recommendations for a 12 year old's Christmas bb gun?

As far as I can tell, the Crosman shoots about 300 fps faster than the Daisy. This could be taken into consideration, as I'd say its exponentially more dangerous. This could be a positive or negative aspect for your consideration.

I had a Daisy 840 when I was young, and I maimed a few critters and felt pretty bad about it. Besides that, it performed great! Just didn't shoot very hard.

I also owned a Marksman 1790 that has since worn out. It shot about 400 fps. But it was AMAZINGLY accurate. I can't find another one of these for the life of me, but your kid would be blessed to shoot one. Get him one of these if you want an accuracy hot rod:

Thanks, toadmyster! I love(d) that Daisy 840, too. Mine had a wood-looking stock. Now all I can find are ones with camo. Do you (or anyone else) know if they still make them with the wood look?

I will keep an eye out for that Marksman 1790 as well.

Can't speak for the Marksman, but the Crosman you can get parts for if you need them, and it is a solid BB gun, and will shoot pellets as well.
