First of all, hello to all.
I am looking for advice. I need a pellet gun for squirrel control on the property, and general plinking/target practice.
I am leaning toward the .22 cal. type and am looking specifically at the Tech ForceĀ® 99 Premier Air Rifle and the Beeman .22 Cal. Air Rifle GH950 Combo.
The Tech 99 is 900 fps and the Beeman is 800 fps.
Any thoughts or advice?
Also, if there are any better suggestions I would appreciate them. I would like to keep the price under $200.00.
Thanks. |

Welcome aboard!
Either of those guns would work A-Ok for squirrel control. Another possible gun which would also work is the Crosman Quest 800, which is also a bit cheaper than those two.
If so- Beeman's are usually pretty accurate out of the box- but are not guns people typically modify- no parts diagrams easily available, Beeman doesn't like to share any sort of info (they run their own repair department for their guns and everyone else- so perhaps they view everyone out there as "competition"). Tech Force I have no personal experience with- so I can't give you much insight on the 99 Premier- although it looks a bit bulkier than the Beeman (cosmetics) and doesn't have an adjustable trigger (which may or may not be of any consequence depending on your view). The Tech Force is an underlever cocking system- which means it won't suffer from 'barrel sag' and slow loss of accuracy (requiring you to re-sight it periodically) like a break-barrel will eventually (the Beeman and Crosman are both break-barrels).
The specific energy output of these guns (800 vs. 900 fps) isn't a concern in respect to short-range shooting- but the further away the target sits- the more energy required to keep the projectile straight while getting there. Any idea what sort of range you think you will typically be shooting from?
Really- it looks like you've found good choices- so all you really need to think about is range to the target (the 900fps gun might be a bit more accurate over 60 feet/20 meters), if you are going to use the gun regularly so that if you get a break barrel- you will eventually have to re-sight it once-in-a-while as the barrel sags when the pivot starts to wear, and the overall cosmetics you prefer. |

Hi
OK just a word of advice... DON'T bother getting a Crosman CO2 rifle if you want to hunt all year round, As they're pretty much useless for hunting and target shooting when it gets cold outside, best to go with what AirGunEric said to go for!!!

Definetly avoid all Co2 guns unless you live in a year-round warm climate- in the cold Co2 pressure drops and shots aren't propelled very well.
That being said- the two guns listed are both springers- so everything should be fine if the temperature isn't -30 where the seals would contract in the cold causing a noticeable drop in power.
Of course- there probably aren't too many squirrels running around in the open in sub-zero temperatures, either. |
