Hi, my name is James I am a new member. I have always liked springer air rifles. As a kid a neighbor had one and used it for taking care of squirrels and other pests in the neighbor hood. A few years back I picked up a Crossman quest to do the same. It worked great head shots were easy and did the trick for them. It worked well for a few years and then got extremely loud, and not very accurate. I use to be able to take out red squirrels regular now I cant seem to hit any of them. I was gonna try to sight it in again but it just seems to be real loud now. I assume something went astray. I know it is not the best air rifle but it has done well for a few years so I am gonna try to figure it out, if I cant fix it I will probably upgrade but I really do like it for what it is worth. Figured I mine as well join and start my reading see what I can do with it.

When you say "extremely loud" - what kind of loud is it? A metallic thunk, or an explosive crack? Did you oil it around the time the noise increased, or perhaps switch to a different pellet? Did the way it feels when you cock it change?

I did clean it around the time, but if memory serves it was shooting fine afterwards. I found out I should not have done that because it may cause dieseling after, so I tried to clean it again with just patches. I have been using the same pellets (Crossman premier hollow points) The noise sounds like a metallic vibration sorta. Best way I can describe it is if you were shooting a bow and had a sight start to come loose and you can just hear it vibrating when you release not loose enough to feel it but when you grab an allen wrench and tighten it up it goes away. It doesn't seem to cock differently but I don't shoot it daily so if it did change I may not have even noticed.
