So, I'm new here, but I did a quick search to see if people have an opinion on which type of pellet is better overall, hollow point or domed for hunting?
And while keeping on that topic, what are some brands to try out in my .22 rifle, and what are some brands that I should clearly stay away from?
Thanks for the help in advance!

I used Domed because they deliver more of the hard earned FPE to the target.... Hollow Points are OK for short range, but then so are Wadcutters....

I see...
Thanks for the insight!
Was recently at a local sports store, and they had a closeout deal for Benjamin Discovery pellets, about $5 for 500
I guess I'll be using these for the backyard to sight in, plink, and catch the wandering squirrel or five

I am in agreement with Bob. High quality pure lead domes have a lot going for them.
Typically they are the most accurate group at any greater distances
they expand very well on impact.
Of course every gun has a preference in what it likes best so you will have to try a bunch of different types to really know
In .22 cal these are good quality, worth a try pellets
JSB Exact
JSB Exact heavy (if the gun is over 15 fpe)
Crosman Premier Ultra Magnum
H&N Field Target Trophy

Same as these guys. Domed, usually heavy one, except for light game at short range like pest birds at up to 20 yards or so. JSB, Premier, H&N. The Premier line has a nice, normal weight (14.3 grain) domed HP you can pretty much use like a non-HP because they are pretty hard alloy and tend to penetrate more than expand. The hole in the nose is small and they don't have a lot of extra air drag. RWS makes some good pellets too. |
