I was wondering if drilling and tapping holes and then threading the button stock would work. I would need a fine thread and to make sure it was a snug fit I could freeze the button stock before threading and or warm the piston. I guess if I screw up I could give it a try for a last resort Neutral

Are you still going with the Delrin?

I don't know if this helps but Macarri sells buttons that are glued on with superglue. He claims to have tested that method to 10's of thousands of cycles

I bought the 1/4" rod just to get my order up to the required minimum, I suppose that I am being a little overly ambitious. Recently I have spent a lot of time on the internet trying to get prices and actually trying to make puchases for all sorts of airgun related items, almost anything you can think of for getting started, tuning, scopes etc. at this point the only thing that I have managed to get is my gun.
I am beginning to feel that the only way to be sure that things will happen is if I do them myself, like yourself and your peers whom I hold in high esteem and envy greatly the creativity, skill and experience Mr. Green

maybe I'll check out Macarri it will most certanly cost less than a crossvice and a milling bit.

I wasn't suggesting that you get maccarri buttons ...heavens no. Where is the fun in that Mr. Green

I was saying that superglue has been used on buttons with success. Maybe you try superglue straight up without milling or drilling.

profile the surface of the button so you have good contact and hav atter.

Yes why not, it won't hurt to give er a go. I just put in a new spring guide last night so I might want to shoot for a while but I'll pick up some glue tomorrow and see how long I can hold off before I take it apart. I'm working on a friends Archer 87, I made a new leather seal and am about to put it back together but now come to think he needs buttons. Smile

I was never really confident that the super glue would hold in that environment. Maybe so, but I went a different way. The piston in my RM577 got brazing rod goobered on:

That worked, but was pretty much overkill. My B3 got thin brass buttons, soldered on. (The brass was cut from .45-70 shells that I picked up at the rifle range.)

On the B3 I used a big pair of vise grip pliers as a heat sink at the point on the piston where the sear latches, to prevent annealing. The RM577 has a central removable rod that latches the sear, so I wasn't concerned about the effects of heat.

Either way, glue or solder, the area has to be thoroughly clean and degreased.

I like the solder idea. I would probably make a recessed seat and solder some thicker than needed buttons into the seats nice and tight with 450ºF, solder for steel/brass, then go about bringing the tops of the buttons down to the height and curvature they need to be. A little polish, and there...I'm just thinking out loud.
JB Weld might be good too instead of solder, but I would still like to see the buttons supported by the sides of a little "well" set into the piston.

Measure the I.D. of the compression tube and the O.D. of the piston to see how much of a gap you have to fill.
