I have a rws model 34 i have only owned it for a half a year when i cock it down everything goes smooth except when i pull it up half way it sounds like something is rubbing the spring i can still shoot it i just never heard this noise.it soundes like a leaf caught in bicycle tire makeing that sound.It doesnt do it all the way when i pull up just about 2 or 3inches it make that noise.

The spring has kinked. Most of my custom 34 springs 'rub' the cocking arm for the full length.

In a stock rifle, the guide is undersize and often leads to a kink in the spring.

If the spring is kinked- which J. obviously indicated this is pretty common on 34's- the only solution is to replace the spring. Of course- then the question becomes "how long before the replacement gets bent" and the same problem occurs.

I have a similar issue on a different springer- except that it's the final 3-4" of piston movement when cocking it where it gets a definite, raspy-sort of noise to it like metal-to-metal rubbing- I suspect it is also a spring guide issue where the spring is rubbing the rear guide. What can I do? Coat the rear guide with something to cut this down (PET plastic, maybe shrink tubing, whatever) seems to be about my only option.

Of course- it may be possible you do having something stuck in the tube- but you would think that it would make the noise for the full cocking cycle. If you are going to replace the spring- maybe take it apart before ordering the replacement just to check.
