I have a Webley Patriot .22 with a Nikko MountMaster 4x40 AO. Very good, solid and clear scope.....BUT... I'm a little lost as to the purpose of the focus adjustment ring on the ocular lens.I have been using the AO to "range find" by matching the sharpness of the image to the range reading on the objective bell.My problem being, if the ocular lens has been focused incorrectly, won't this affect the focus / distance reading at the AO bell?? Or is it simply a case of measuring a specific range, adjusting the AO to match, and then focusing the ocular lens ? Cheers and I hope this makes sense Also , if it's focused as per my suggestion, wont that make the ocular focus ring void? |

The focus adjustment ring on the ocular lens is to focus the cross hairs it shouldn’t alter anything else.
BTW welcome to AirGunHome.

Al is correct. Use the ocular adjustment to bring the reticle into focus. This is a one-time thing.
Use the objective lens to bring the image into focus. Put the gun on a rest, and without touching it look through the scope. Move your head around - you will notice the reticle "moving" relative to the target (parallax error). The correct adjustment for the objective lens is where the point of aim doesn't shift. This may not agree exactly with the calibrations, but you can always put a piece of tape on the objective bell and write in your own calibrations for different ranges. |
