Anyone know anything about Dan Wesson 6mm steel BB Revolvers?

6mm? That would be Airsoft wouldn't it?

They are in both .177 and 6mm and I'm intrested in converting one or the other to a rifled barrel and fitting a larger valve, which I think will not be much of a job, plus the guns themsleves are very well made far better than any airpistol in the same price range, with an out put of 450 fps it compares well with any of the Walther, Crosman, berreta etc.

Not sure about Airsoft for the .177 ?

I bought a BB gun the other day I’m not sure why it just took my fancy, It’s a Dan Wesson 6” Revolver and shoots .177 steel BBs, the velocity is rated at 450 fps, but this can be turned up to 500 fps very easily.

The whole gun is metal apart from the grips which are a semi-soft plastic, the weight is 2.2 lb and is nickel plated.

Testing on a 10m target indoor at 65 deg F, I was getting ½” groups from a bench and 1” standing, I think this could be due to the trigger sear needing polishing which should improve things, basically it is a very realistic fun gun and getting 90 shots per Co2 capsul.

I did have the idea of replacing the smooth bore with a Crosman rifled barrel, altering the BB cartridge holder to take .177 pellets and up-rating the valve system, which I don’t think will be to much of a problem.

Now my grandson has seen it and thinks I have bought it for him to play with as I have my own guns. We shall see.

Next week, when it arrives, I'll receive a DW 8" BB shooting revolver. I'll post comments once I've given it a workout. It will be competing with 3 other, all metal, BB pistols - Crosman C41, Colt Defender, and everyone's favorite, the remarkable Makarov. RC

I think the idea with my Dan Wesson revolver was to replace the smooth bore barrel with a rifled one and alter the shell cases to take a .177 pellet.

Anyway after trying it out in the garden I was quite impressed with the action and accuracy, so I stripped it down to see how it worked and the main thing that stood out as being very bad design was the single action steel sear which was only about 1mm wide and working on a soft alloy trigger sear, and already this was wearing with the little use I have given it, as I prefer single action I decided to sort this out first.

Not a lot can be done with the main part of the hammer as it has to pass the Co2 valve, but where it reaches the sear this could be made wider to increase the sear area, after stripping the hammer down I finished up with just the steel plate that links the hammer to the sear, I the cleaned off the plating off the inside of the sear and made a 6mm x 6mm brass block 3mm thick, this I intended to silver solder on to the side of the sear to make it wider.

The brass block is coated with silver solder flux, placed in position on to the steel sear plate and heated up with a gas torch, enough silver solder should be applied to flood the brass block, once it has cooled off you can file the brass block to the profile of the sear, be careful not the file anything off the sear itself, polish with fine emery.

Put the hammer back together and fit back into the gun, check that the rear of the brass block does not catch a Co2 capsule when fitted, if so file a bit off the back of the block,
And that’s it you should have a single action that is smooth and last a long time,

I have also fitted a silencer to cut down the crack.
