If I was going to spend 500 to $1000 on a sportsman I would be looking at AirArms

Probably an S400

I've seen the results from 100m benchrest competitions in the Netherlands. Simply unbelievable accuracy

The 400 and 500 are single shot rifles. The 410 and 510 use a rotary magazine and can shoot 10 rounds before reloading.

I was told that the action is the same and both have Lothar Walther barrels, but the 400 series has walnut stocks and the 500 series uses poplar. Many of the poplar stocks look just as nice as walnut to me...

Are you familiar with the noise levels of the PCP airguns? They can be very loud if you will be shooting in a residential area. Maybe consider something with a barrel shroud. I have an FX Tarantula in .177 that I am happy with. I have it set at 850ft/sec and the noise is still a moderate bang.
