I occasionally go “Lamping” (night shooting) for rats, and use a 50w spot lamp powered of a battery pack strapped to my belt, this is bulky and awkward to use.

So after searching the web for a better system I bought a LED Lenser P7 torch, and it is amazing, it has a 4.5w Cree LED rated at 200 lumens with a beam that can be focused from a wide angle to a spot, it runs on four AAA batteries and they last between 60 and 130 hours depending on power used.

I have only used it on one occasion as yet and it is brilliant! (no pun intended). The beam on spot at high power is bright white, enough to shoot rats at 30m, a mate who tried it on his .22 rimfire could reach out to 75m no problem.

It puts torches such as a Maglight to shame with their yellow beams and high power consumption.
