What should I expect from My crosman tac77 elite?

accuracy at 10m?

Quality of workmanship?

what type of tuning mods. should I do first?

The TAC 77 Elite is a gun of the same platform as the B18/19, Quest and Phantom 1000's. Other than the stock and all the accessory pieces added to it- it is basically a Phantom.

That being said- those bits/pieces- the scope, the flashlight, bipod and muzzle break- are installed in the U.S.- not the Chinese factory where the basic gun is made- so hopefully Crosman is double-checking the quality control. If you read any reviews of the Quest or Phantom- virtually everything said about them applies to the TAC 77- and hopefully Crosman has double-checked the QC so it is even better.

I might suggest that the weakest part of the gun, assuming everything else is working properly, will be the trigger. You might want to think about the CharliedaTuna GRT-III trigger upgrade, which will make the trigger pull totally different- not the rather hard, sudden unit that comes from the factory.

What you are paying for is a Phantom ($90 or so, US) a Centerpoint scope ($60), a muzzle break ($25), bipod ($30-60 depending) and flashlight ($30-ish)- so $235 (maybe a bit more depending on the bipod) for the pieces, but they are assembled already, and you get that stock which is not available on the other Crosman spring guns. The TAC 77 Elite sells for around $270 or so- so you're not paying any real premium for it- but you get an out-of-the-box complete setup.

What can you expect from it? The QC on most Quests and Phantoms is pretty variable. If you get a decent one out of the box requiring no "work" you could expect .5" groups at 10M and reasonable quality.

If you are going to do anything- take it apart and remove the factory red goo lube and re-do it with something more appropriate.

you sound like your from the US funny you would use meters rether than yards

but i would think that you could get good groups at 25 or30 yards,
it is a .177 going 1000fps isnt it?

It's because the Metric system is being used in pretty much most other countries in the world, and this is an international forum (it even shows in the big banner!. Wink

) But that's off-topic.

Meters, Standard, Imperial, whatever. As long as there are calculators and converters around- or you can do basic math in your head fairly quickly- it's something easily dealt with. For people in countries where the Metric system was only implemented 20, 30, 40 years ago there are generations of people familiar with both systems (standard and metric) so there really isn't an issue.

The "best" it can be will involve a lube&tune- cleaning it out and getting rid of the red goo lube that the Chinese factory puts in it and using a proper oil/moly replacement, deburring any rough edges on any moving parts, and possibly re-crowning the barrel for accuracy if it's not perfect.

Beyond that, until it's been used for awhile and the barrel bushings get sloppy there's not a lot to be done except add a few 1/4" washers at the top of the spring/upper spring guide to allow the spring to rotate a bit when cocked and not stressing the coils- reducing 'twang'.

Some people have also put PET plastic around the spring inside the piston to reduce twang, which is a bit hard to explain- but people have cut plastic soda bottles, wrapped the piece around the portion of the spring that is always inside the piston skirt with some folded-over edges of the plastic behind the spring guide/tophat to keep it in place. This is a bit extreme, and the newer versions of the B18/19, Quest/Phantom platform guns don't seem to be as prone to "twang" like the older ones, so this modification is probably unnecessary and more trouble than it's worth.

And, as mentioned, a better trigger setup- like the GRT-III.

Trigger...CharlieDaTuna is what you want to make it one step better, believe me, it made a world of difference on my Phantom.
