From one of the other AirGun Forums.... This fellow rebuilt his Benjamin pump with a kit from Sun Optics and used Motor Oil to lubricate it PER THEIR INSTRUCTIONS....
On his first use after the rebuild, topping up his Marauder from 2400 psi when he got to 2800 the hose blew up, embedding shrapnel in his feet and burning and bruising them.... It also cracked the housing of the pump.... Yes, he was pumping barefoot....
IMO, pretty obviously a diesel type explosion.... but when he contacted Sun Optics they stuck by their recommendation to lube the pump with Motor Oil and told him there must have been "a spark"....
Do we need to say it again?.... HPA is Dangerous.... HPA and Oil DON'T Mix....

Myself and another gentleman had some "dealings" with the pump importer- "Sun Optics" awhile back- they gave out bad advice and obviously had no idea what they were talking about, lied about shipping spare parts, made commitments they had no intention of keeping... and here's the best part- this "Man of his word and great advice" (there seems to only be a couple people there who get near the phone- the technical genius and the owner), anyways, he was apparently an ex-employee of Compasseco (prior to PyramydAir buying them)- who knows what sort of advice he gave people on airguns!
While I don't know how anyone can verify that they did, in fact, say to use engine oil in a multi-stage pump- if they did I think someone should call up their lawyer... |

No sh!t! I once had a phone confrontation with the resident "airgunsmith" of Compasseco. No offense to those in the south. It was clear to me I was dealing with an ignornant hillbilly only pushing product out the door. Yeah, springer bores need cleaning every 50 rounds with a patch soaked in rubbing alcohol. |

If you could email me a copy of the .pdf I can dump it on the server here and change the link to it. |

There is a second report on the GTA Forum of a Benji pump blowing up after being rebuilt and lubed with motor oil as per the instructions.... No injuries this time, but it blew the main pump tube right off the base.... no pics yet....

I notice that Sun Optics no longer recommend Motor Oil on their webpage.... They now use the term "O-ring lube" without specifying what to use....

Wow- I wonder how many years it took them to figure it out. Maybe the second guy threatened a lawsuit or something. |

None taken.
There are more than plenty of them down here that we have to suffer with. |
