Hello, (first post)
I recently aquired my first airgun, a Diana mod. 20 (standarised for Canadian law, this means a fps of 498) equiped with a Bushnell 9x32 scope. I am using Gamo Pointed Hollow points pellets. It shoots pretty well...until I heard things.
It's been 2 weeks that I go shooting every day at least an hour and I am easily capable of hitting a Pepsi can at 25-30 yards in standing position (yay progress!). And I would like to know:
1-Is this an acceptable accuracy?
2-If not, could my pellets be the cause of such innacuracy? What kind of pellets should I use? I heard Pointed would be perfect, or Domed.
Also, I heard Bi-pods were a no with break-barrel airguns. Is this true?
Thank you, if there are any details you would like to know, i will be please to answer them.
P.S: English isn't my maternal language, so it does have some flaws. Thank you for your understanding. |

Welcome
An acceptable accuracy for what? No to guns like the same pellet so you will have to experiment a for the bipod i don't think you will have a problem. |

As pointed out- every gun and every pellet are a real crap-shoot. Two of the exact same model gun that came off the assembly line one after another may act differently with pellets from the same package- it's all about experimentation. Is your problem the pellets you are using? Maybe- but I wouldn't worry about that as being a major problem as of yet. Try another variety of pellet in the gun and see what happens to give yourself a bit of an indicator anyways. Have you tried any other pellets so far? What pellets are you using? The style of pellet you "should" use is dependant upon distance and what you plan to shoot. For 30 yard targets, wadcutters or basic domed pellets are probably A-OK.
How far off are each of your shots? A soda can at 30yards in a standing position is good- but certainly not going to win anyone any trophies (I'm not much better- so that's not supposed to be some sort of criticism). Try shooting from a rested position (ie. with a sandbag or something) and see how you improve. Try it with the gun's open sights and see if anything changes as well.
You need to determine if it is the gun or you. But, being a relatively new shooter and using a reasonably 'quality' gun like a Diana- I would say it's probably more likely 'you' in this case- especially in a standing, off-hand position where wobble and movement are most likely.
If you have access to another gun- try it as well and see how you do- if your accuracy is about the same, it is, again, less likely the gun that you.
In any event- good luck and see what you can figure out. |
