What is the actual size of .25 airgun pellets? I know that (for example) .22 airgun isn't the same as .22lr and that .177 is actually 4.5mm. I'm considering the jump to a .25 rifle (yeah, I have been 'considering' it for a decade or more, but bear with me Razz ) and I'd like to look at ball molds. Could be fun having lead ball for a .25 shooter. With the price of pellets being so high, casting a pile of ball may help me get more enjoyment out of the rifle.

As far as I know 25cal is 6mm. That's just what I was told so take it for a grain of Salt.

Not even close.... 6mm is 0.236".... .25 cal pellets are listed at 6.35mm which is 0.250".... The cheapest thing to try is #3 Buckshot....

On the home page of this forum is a Pellet Specifications List:

http://www.airgunhome.com/pages/pelletspecs.html

The head diameter basically rides on the lands (for the smaller sizes) or get shallowly engraved by the rifling and is a better indication of typical bore diameter for each caliber.... the skirts are usually bigger than the true bore and get deformed in firing anyway.... Typically, .177" is considered the "true" size, as is .217" for .22 cal and .250" for .25 cal....

This may call for getting the gun (or a barrel for my Talon, whichever it turns out to be) and slugging the barrel.

I see #3 buckshot as being .250 + or- .005 A little looking and I'm sure I'll find a more accurate mold than that, but that's a good starting point.

Sorry, I meant #3 Buck.... Embarassed .... #1 Buck is for .30 cal....

I have heard reports that it is quite usuable out to 50 yards in some guns.... Here is a quote from someone I really trust:

Quote:
#3 buckshot is great stuff from Hornady and can do 1" at 50 yards easy enough. was able to hit pop bottle caps pretty handy at 65 yards with them.

I understood ya' loud and clear. When you said buckshot it clicked. The # was just a typo, the thought was correct.

BTW, there is a guy on Ebay selling what look like pretty nice buckshot molds. Not sure how effective it would be casting buckshot for shotgunning (by the time you pour the twenty piece trees, sprue it, etc) but for airgunning....maybe more viable rof someone who has a buckshot caliber airgun. There aren't a lot of buckshot caliber airguns these days, but if you look back there have been quite a few over the years. The Apache comes to mind. I know I've seen all kinds of buckshot caliber airguns in the blue Book. Mostly stuff I've never seen in real life, but someone owns them I'm sure.

I have a 5 lb. box of #3 Hornady buckshot coming.... I'll let you know how my .25 Disco likes it.... 5 lbs. x 7000 gr./lb. / 23.4 gr. = ~1500 shots for ~$30.... That's only 2 cents a shot.... Wink
