I decided to try a scope on the Avanti (Daisy) 853. The rings I had available were pretty low, but then so is the comb of the stock, which allows my eye to come right in line with the scope. What's driving me nuts is trying to load the thing - there's not enough clearance between the scope tube and the loading port to accomodate my fingers:

I could solve the problem with taller scope rings, but then I would have to do surgery to the comb to make it higher:

My solution was to make a loading tool from a retractable ball-point pen. We have discussed loading tools on this forum before, but never in the context of getting into tight spaces (search "dispenser"). I cut away part of the "nose" of the pen with a pocket knife, and shortened the brass end of the ink tube with a Dremel and abrasive cutoff wheel. I blew the excess ink out into a paper towel, and allowed the remainder to dry:

To use it you stab the narrow waist of the pellet:

Then you position the pellet, and release it by pressing the pen's button:

Ingenious!

I just roll the pellet into the chamber on my 753.

You may have to patent that clever little pellet loader!

Yup, tried that - still pretty awkward.

I'm just going to wait until someone steals it like they stole Alstone's dispenser design.

Such a creative, problem solving mind! Would you post a picture of what exactly you did to the tip of the pen? I think I can visualize it, but I'd like to see if that matches reality. Maybe I can put a proper scope on my Sheridan Blue Streak now. The red dot is OK, but my eyes are getting older by the minute and a scope helps SO much. And turkey season is approaching fast. (In CA you have to use a .20 caliber or above on turkey, so the .177 Big Cat is ineligible.)

Now if you could combine your loading tool with Alstone's dispenser, Nirvana would be near!

I realize this thread is 18 months old, but this is about the same gadget:

I made this thing to load an Avanti 853, but today I used it with a Chinese B3. You know how there is barely room enough in the B3 for two fingers, and you have to feel around with the pellet because you can't see? And how wadcutters are especially difficult? And how pellets don't always enter the breech straight?

Using this tool you can locate the pellet's head in the breech visually. Then all it takes is a little push with the thumb to make the tool snap off and to seat the pellet. It should also work with other guns that require approaching the breech from the side (eg., a P17/Marksman 2004).

Great idea! I think the clever bit is the button release idea, it’s not getting something to put the pellet in the breach it’s letting go of it.

That's true in the case of the 853 - here with the B3 you don't use the plunger. Your thumb pushes directly on the pellet. That brass dispenser you made should do the same thing if you put a pellet sideways in the prongs.

I bought one tin to try a long while back. They are almost as good as Meisterkugeln's in my Slavia 631, so I keep them as a backup. The B3 likes them too.

This gadget doesn't work with the cylindrical Prospero pellets that the B3 favors - the pellet needs to be waisted.

You know what they say - if you go to buy pellets bring a friend. You wouldn't want to drive home if you get waisted.
