Hi Guys

I want to clean the barrel of my old bb gun out but I have heard that you should never reverse a bore brush inside the barrel, how can I do this without damaging anything? The brushes are brass, I was thinking about wiping a small cleaning patch around the bruses so they wont scratch anything.

I dont see an other way of cleaning them because the bb's go in the small trap door at the end of the barrel

Thanks for any help

Jeremy

What is in the barrel that a brush would be required to clean it? BB guns generally have smoothbore barrels (i.e. no rifling to get residue accumulated in)- as such, unless it's rusting, a cotton patch (no brush) with oil should be fine. Keep in mind too that there may not be alot to clean out as BBs are made of steel, not lead- so a round piece of steel traveling through a smooth bore is not likely leaving a whole lot behind- what you might have is some oil/Co2 residue- or if using copper-coated pellets then maybe some copper dust.

If you want to use a .17 caliber bore brush and rod in your smooth-bore barrel just make sure you turn it by hand in a spiral as you begin your change in direction or it will jam up.

A .17 caliber bore mop soaked with Hoppes bore cleaner will do a good job unless maybe it is rusted, then you'll need a brush.

Q-Tip ear swabs do a great job if you can push them through from end to end.
