I'm looking at buying and moding a 2240, well a 2300 custom,
with a bulk air tank.
First question is what pressure will the 2300 handle?
Is 1600 psi too high?
Do I need to replace the valve?
I'm intending on adding a pressure adjuster, got a suggestion?
I'm a total newb at this, on the one hand I really want to mod something,
make it my own, and on the other I want to be able to hunt ground squirrel, rabbit & pigeon.
I really like the look of the 22XX carbine mods I've seen, and bulk HPA makes sense to me.
Am I making some sort of mistake thinking I can use a 22XX carbine to hunt with?
Thanks

The first thing you need to realize is that the valve in a 22XX is NOT located to withstand the pressure of an HPA conversion.... It is only located by one small 6-40 screw.... The valve in a Discovery, for example, is mounted by three 8-32 screws set down flush with the valve so that the heads of the screws distribute the load over a very large area of the tube wall.... At a minimum, you need to attach the valve to the tube in a similar manner....
The tube in the Disco, which is the same dimensions as the 22XX tube, is safe at 2000 psi.... However, a 2240 tube has a safety roll-stamp that weakens the wall.... I think possibly a 2300 tube is silk-screened instead of stamped.... you need to check on that.... I would personally stay under 1600 psi and make sure that the gun is protected by a 1.8K burst disc so that the disc will fail and protect the gun in the event of a regulator failure....

Both the 2300 and the 2400 are both silk screened. I've got both. |

Is it possible to mount a Discovery tube on a 2300?
If that's the case then I don't need to do any other mods, or do I?

Yes, it will bolt right onto the trigger group etc.... It is, however, much longer (the same length as a 24" barrel).... You should also get a Disco valve and mounting screws to go with it.... and you may as well get the Disco fill fitting and cover.... You will also need a gauge block and gauge (to plug the hole in the tube).... and the Disco one is the obvious choice.... and don't forget the Disco hammer spring....
The Disco tube has a rearward location for the tiny 4-48 screw under the bolt compared to the 22XXs I have seen.... the screw is still under the bolt when it is cocked.... If you haven't got a steel breech, you may want to get one from a Disco as well....

I had planned on getting the 24" barrel on the 2300 so the length of the tube is not a problem.
And I was thinking about the whole "tube assembley" tube, valve & fill cap,
though I had not thought about the gauge & gauge block,
which means I'd have to make a custom fore end to accommodate the gauge.
Where would you go about getting all these parts?
The Disco tube is not regulated is it?
