So I'm thinking maybe I wanna mod my 66 powermaster, if thats even possible or worth it. I want it more accurate so I probably have to do trigger work on it (I definitely pull to the left a little when i squeeze the trigger) but I have no idea how I'd do that. Should I re-crown the barrel? You guys have seen my competition targets, think that would be necessary? I think the power is ok as is so I shouldnt have to mess with the piston or valve or anything, or am I wrong on that one? Any other ideas? Thanks in advance

Hi dedpool
The last target you posted wasn't to bad for free hand, but to improve you need to find out where you are going wrong, is it the gun or is it you?.

The problem of pulling to the left could be caused by a bad trigger set up, so a trigger job would be a good start, then practice pulling the trigger smoothly.

The grouping can be improved but is it the gun or you, if it's you then its back to practicing again, if its the gun then a re-crown is a good place to start.

I wouldn't alter the power for now you need to get it shooting right first, then alter the power if you want to.

Al

yeah I kinda figured it was mostly me being a n00b. Way to take all the fun outta ripping my gun apart and making it badass for no good reason AL Razz But if I did want to adjust the trigger, what should I do to it? Where be the tutorials?

Trigger mods, to any airgun, are typically the same- smooth out parts using very fine grit sandpaper anywhere there are rough spots that can cause "drag", change the trigger spring (the one that holds the trigger forward/out that one pulls against when squeezing the trigger) and lubing everything well. Sure, "friction is your friend" during sex maybe- not so much when pulling a trigger! Wink

If you look at the diagram- it appears that on the 66, part #761B085 is the trigger spring. It is a bent, 'L' shaped affair- a spring of which might be available somewhere, but is generally specific to some sort of device. You can take the one you've got and compress/bend it a bit to soften it up- but if you go too far you might have to get a replacement from Crosman customer service.

Perhaps the best idea is to get in there and smooth out any rough spots and lube everything that pivots based on the trigger pull and see how it comes out, before going to bend/alter the spring.

so i took my gun apart and lubed everything up and i suppose the trigger is slightly smoother. It seems to me if I want it even lighter I should grind down the sear slightly with a dremmel. would this be a good or bad idea? My only problem now is that my safety will not work whatsoever. It looks like the spring holding the safety gets pinched by the receiver when I close it up. there is a tiny groove on the right hand receiver where it looks like it should go but it absolutely will not fit there

A light polish would be better than grinding with a dremel.
Changes to sear angle could cause an unstable trigger that fails without warning . . .
