hello all, this is my first post here.. really enjoy the site... so last week at an auction i bought a Remington summit air rifle with the 3-9x40 scope.. i cant get this scope sighted in for nothing... i tried sighting it like my other rifles but as i adjust for elevation it only adjust so far.. any suggestions or tips.... thanks!

how far is it out? a half inch or so can be shimmed with used camera film. more than that and I would consider looking at the mechanics of the rifle. Is it a breakbarrel? if so check the sloppiness in the mount. I personally would check the pin for the sight rings. It usually sticks up out of the back barrel mount right over where the ring goes. I had one work out and it pushed the back of the scope up. There'll be other guys along with advice toos sooner or alter. It ususally goes dribbl dreibble then a whole ton of info all at once. lol Good luck!

I had the same problem with my Remington Vantage. I couldn't get 3 shots to hit anywhere near each other, maxed out my elevation knobs and it just made things worse. Then I learned about the artillery hold. You can't shoot 99% of the springers like a normal gun. Somebody once told me before...you have to hold the gun without holding it.

thanks for the video link,, great info ,, i had no idea about shooting that way.. grouping my shots isnt a problem.... i get my shots about 1 1/2in out of the center of target and cant adjust the scope (elevation) anymore to get in center... im going to take the scope mount off and apart and check as you said... its a nice scope and i hope i can figure it out... thanks again for the help!! i must admit im use to shooting high power rifles so this is new to me...

My shot groups have dramatically improved after shooting a high power airgun over the winter. Im not talking like a little better, but at 100 yard sight in my groups went from 3 inch groups to .75" groups. Now all of my shooting partners have bought airguns to practice because they were shooting in the 5" range at 100 YD. I'm sure most of that comes down to the past 6 months of shooting with the artillery hold in my home shooting range.

welcome yeah dont fight the recoil at all when you shoot as far as the scope thing working out im the type of person that throws things accross my yard when they dont work so im not the best one to answer that todd is right though shimming it might be best way to go.

You may have overextended the maximum adjustment of the scope. Suggest taking the scope off and recentering the crosshairs to the scope.

Take each adjustment to the maximum (elevation and windage) then count the number of clicks to get to the other side. Once you do that reverse to one half on each of the adjustments.

For example, if the elevation takes 400 clicks to go from one side to the other, then turn back 200 clicks to get to scope's center. Do the same for the windage.

Others have suggested placing the scope on a mirror, bell side down. Illuminate the mirror, look into the scope and adjust until you see one windage crosshair and one elevation crosshair. I've never really had success with this, I have trouble seeing the crosshairs.

Remount the scope and adjust for POI.

well took the scope mount off and found towards the rear off the mount was a pin with hollow center that was sticking out and bent.. now where the scope mount goes on the gun there are 2 small holes, what are these for??
