The lid itself cost me $0.50 at a second-hand store. Even at that price I had to float a loan from my daughter: My G1 produces a 5" group at 100 yards, so this is easy in a dead calm. The real fun starts with even a slight breeze. Then you have to read the grass and mirages, and look for puffs of dust or leaf deflection in the target area. At closer ranges (like 20 yards) I would worry about deflection, but at 100 yards the pellets bounce back only a few feet. At that range it's loud enough to hear even with ear muffs and burner shooters on the range. _________________ ¡Listo! ¡Apunte! ¡Fuego! In any case, I was thinking about making something similar except with a few different sized metal rings, concentrically located one on top of each other with a little space between each. My thoughts were that the different sized rings will make different tones when struck by the projectile, audibly alerting you to where you hit on the target. Taking 6 classes in two and a half months at the moment now though so if i get to shoot at all I consider myself lucky. I used to shoot at a metal drumhead with similar results. The nice loud ding gives great feed back. The plates were made from 1/8" steel that previously covered a fireplace, so the pellets won't go through it, but one or two of my "beast" guns will dent them. I paint them white, and once there marred up a good bit, just give them a fresh spray. I know I irritate one of my neighbors, but they are not the most friendly to begin with. Don't have to worry about bounces, as every pellet that has hit one, has turned into a flattened piece of lead. Some times even sticking to the plate, that's neat when it happens. I do like this idea, I'll need to keep an eye out at the yard sales for some additional targets..
