I'm hoping i don't get harassed for posting too much, but i have to ask when i'm so unfamiliar with todays pellet guns. anyways, i read a post here where someone cited this gun as very good. Granted it's not a Co2 which i wanted, but this is so cheap, and i think i can mod it to mount a under barrel laser from some of the info i've seen. Any thoughts on the gun's volume level? |

I have a Marksman 2004, which is the same gun by an earlier name. It's quiet enough so I can hear the internal metal parts "snapping" when I fire it.
The one big drawback about the gun is the power level - only about 3 F.P.E. It is pretty accurate, so that may not be a drawback at all if your intended purpose is plinking or paper targets. It has an adult-sized frame, and all the seals in the gun are "O" rings that can be obtained at an automotive parts store. I like mine.
The Marksman 2004/Beeman P17 is a clone of the HW40/Beeman P3, which is much more expensive. You get a lot of gun for the price, but as you might expect there are manufacturing shortcuts. The piston problem mentioned in your link is probably a burr on the inside of the cylinder at the air inlet. That can be fixed with a single Allen wrench (hex key) and some 800 grit emery cloth.
You can't go wrong for $35.00. |

| It is a single shot. The one I had was not accurate, leaked air and had very low power to the point that over 10 feet sometimes it would not even put a hole in a soda can. |

| I realize the power level is not that of say a 2204, but i'm not expecting that. I'm expecting something along the lines of a Co2 like a PT80, PX4, etc. And in that it should be the same since the FPS is the same, in fact more than the PX4. I'm looking for something that will take down rats at very close range better than my C11 Bb pistol. I assume a pellet is more devastating than a BB since once it enters it will either mushroom a bit or spin around which would cause much more damage than a BB which would make a minimum hole being round and hard. So wouldn't it be better than that and as good as the PT80 for example? I really like and almost bought the PT80 but i read too many things saying guns like that tend to leak at the clip. |

That sounds like the air-inlet burr problem. The burr compromises the piston seal, which both compresses and holds air in the gun.

I've taken small rabbits in the garden at sub-10 yard ranges. |

Well, the C11 BB isn't by any stretch the optimal rat gun. But on occasion it does do the job. Take tonite for example. Two shots at about 10-12 feet...

Well, i'm very close to pulling the trigger (pun intended) on the P17 unless anyone can assure me the air leak issue is not as easy to fix as i have been reading. Basically it sounds like the ares the seat sits on just needs to be smoothed with some very fine wet and dry, and that new seals are just O rings that you can get at a hardware or auto parts tore. In fact i have a huge bag with various sizes down to probably 1/8", so i likely already have some. And i'm pretty experienced at polishing metal and work in a field where i do a lot of work disassembling and repairing mechanical things. So de-burring that area should be a breeze.
Is there any reason that may not work out ? If it's a go, then i will likely order it because aside from the one shot feature it has pretty much everything i need. It's said to be extremely quiet, has a rail for mounting, albeit on top instead of bottom, it's cheap, supposedly very accurate and pretty strong, and has a good trigger according to what i've read. |

| Can i get some opinions on the volume of the P17? Compared to a Co2 BB pistol like my C11 for example. I read it was very quiet, and the videos i watched seem to confirm that. But upon reading more reviews several said it's loud. So whats the real story? |

| If you order it from pyramydair, you have 30 days to return it for any reason as long as it still looks good. You can also tell them it's underpowered or too loud for your intended purpose. I've used their guarantee for a bad stock on a rifle and they gave me no problems. PS you could also mount a red dot sight on top. You could also put the laser on top with no mods. Here is my fave:http://www.walmart.com/ip/Centerpoint-Laser-Sight/13449160 I've got two and they both work nice. Also if you posted garbage instead of good questions you might get told to slow down, but you legitimately need help and that is always a good reason to ask a question. Look how much broom posts and he never gets yelled at. lol jk broom. |

The only issue with that is i know i'm going to have to pay shipping both ways and thats likely to be $20-30 combined. As to the laser up top, yes, that was one of the things that helped me decide that i think i want it. Also, while i really wanted a Co2 for the repeater aspect, it WILL be nice to not have to buy Co2's.
i have a laser already by the way, so i'm good to go on that. Love it for rats at nite by the way....no idea how i could do this w/o one. |

| hmmm....was about to order it when i read one last review which stated "11 mm scope mount". I just measured my BSA laser's mount and it's more like double that. Before i buy at pyramid, am i right in thinking this will cause me not to be able to use my laser, or is there something i'm missing here? I want to know because i found a place that sells it for the same price after shipping costs as pyramid, but it comes with a laser on it. |
