Hell no they're not, right out of the box this one behaved like it should. Didn't even diesel the first shot (I took it apart and wiped everything off first). Not even a hundred rounds in and from ten yards when my hold is right the 5 shot group is barely wider than a .22 hole. Not much recoil either.
Chrony'd the Crosman FH 7.4 grain, got a 5 shot average of 951.8 with a spread of 33 fps.

The fourth shot was the outlier so despite it's awesome performance so far it might not be fully broken in |

They sure know what they're doing alright. Even though the Genesis is licensed to Remington it's still Crosman parts, and so far my Genesis, Trail XL and this Quest have all pleasantly surprised me with their performance even right out of the box. One of these days it'll get an E3650 spring though since I hear the stock spring wears out quick on some people, and it will hopefully tame down the already minimal recoil.
O yeah, what kind of Crosmans do you own, Packrat? |

Eric has mentioned that Crosman's springs have gotten better, so a Crosman O.E.M. spring is an option to consider should yours break.
The spring on my G1 did in fact break. I measured my original at 36C X 0.125" wire X 0.488" I.D. The E3650 will work at 35C X 0.120" wire X 0.515" I.D. My G1's spring guide measured 0.474" so I went with the E9870 spring (39C X 0.120" wire X 0.480" I.D.) It fit much better on the spring guide, but is three coils longer - so I removed the spacer ("thrust bearing") and replaced it with a shorter stack of washers. |
