I finally got around to some chronograph time with my HB-22.
I've had this pistol almost 3 years, and I'm lucky if it's seen 300 pellets through the tube. The trigger is THAT bad
The box it came in says 460 fps. User's manual says not to exceed 8 pumps, or the valve may lock
Here's a few numbers:
Crosman 14.3 gr "Competition" wadcutter.
8 pumps- 348.4 fps avg over 10 shots. Extreme spread 10.4 fps Min- 5.1 fps
10 pumps- 367.0 fps avg ten shots. Ex spread 4.6 fps Min .3 fps
15 pumps- 405.7 fps avg ten shots. Ex spread 16.5 fps Min .7 fps
20 pumps- 430.3 fps avg ten shots. Ex spread 5.2 fps Min 3.6 fps
No where near the advertised 460 fps.
Frankly, I'm somewhat stymied by this performance. Gun should be at least the equal of my phase 1 13-22. Valve volume of the HB is at least 20% greater than the 13-22, and swept volume would be around 10-15% greater- due to to the larger diameter (albeit a bit shorter) pump tube.
The HB has the heaviest hammer spring I've seen from Crosman. Yes Bob, it's a bit harder to compress than a disco hammer spring, but a little shorter. Gun starts retaining a small pop of air at 20 pumps. It's a bit of a bear to pump. I don't think I should try to over strain it, or myself, with 25 pumps.
I'd like to find a way to get that hairpin sear spring out of the gun, and a more controllable coil spring into it. Other wise, it's going back into the scope drawer for another 28 months...

| You have something cutting down the flow of the valve (i.e. crap buildup or such)? |

Nope- interior of the valve is as clean as a whistle. Air flow is a bit of a departure from the 13-xx/22xx system- with no transfer port. There is just a simple hole through the pump tube into the brazed on barrel. Seal is by two "O" rings around the valve body. For all the pressure that the valve handles, there's just the lone front trigger guard screw to secure it. I'm sorely under impressed with this pistol. For what I paid for it, a little performance to expectations should have been part of the over all "hand crafted" package. This heap 'o bronze and brass earns 5 thumbs down.

| hello new to this site but i have a h9a first take valve apart open it up drill a second hole through exsisting hole to barrel on valve on a slight angle towards vavle outlet watch out for seal surface second take outlet valve put it in a drill press and file it for air flow round it out down to the rubber third on inlet end cut off two threads approx 1/8 in this will incress air volume in chamber should rock with ten to 15 pumps i have pumped mine up 45 pumps no problem. then i got sick of pumping and removed inlet drilled to 1/8 pipe some paint ball fittings remot tank holder mounted to bottom of pistol grip tank acts as rifle stock and no more pumping gauge reads 1000 psi 800 on a cool day 24oz co2 tank and shoots all day long has not blown up at that pressure i would guess 700fps my gamo varment does 1000fps and shooting into 22gauge steel sheet makes just as big a dent |
