Now if he had done that with an air gun then it would be impressive.

Sounds like a .338 Lapua Magnum:

I heard about it yesterday (not from this forum). They talked about ballistics but did not mention that it was a .338 Lapua. I figured this after checking the .50BMG numbers.

Very impressive, since all the previous record holders used .50BMGs to do that. Not to mention his first shot hit, from a cold bore. Then his second also hit. Must have been a ballistics nightmare to figure out...

isn't the .404 chey tac flatter than .50?

.404/.400 whatever. i think it's the flattest shooting round alive.

there are a few superior to .50.

.338 lapua so i've read is good within 1 mile.

i'm remembering 400 grains 3000-3500 fps...

i'd like to know the on target fpe of that 750 grain v-max. Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

It's .408 CheyTac. Initially, the .50 has more fpe, after 400 yards the .408 is far superior. The other "advantage" of the .50 is cost, and ammo availability (also the API and such rounds). The .408 is also far more accurate (about 16" at 2400yds) unless the record has been broken. 16" was shot at a target, though.

These kills where at 1.51 (Rob Furlong) and 1.53 (Craig Harrison) miles. That is 1.5x the effective range of the .338, however Rob used the .50.

They were talking above about it being a .408 ChevyTac, unless I misunderstood.... I just wanted to clarify that it was a .338....

I recognize the difference between a .408 and .338. I didn't see any mention of the .408 in the article posted above.

.408. duh. Rolling Eyes i'm rusty on burner talk. Rolling Eyes

.338 lapua is getting a lot of recognition.

250 grains/2969 fps
300 grains/2800 fps
(reference-ammo and ballistics 3rd edition)

i once stood behind a guy at the range with a .50 bmg
macmiilan. he was nailing a steel target at 600 yards.

that is the max range there. Rolling Eyes it was like rats at 10 yards
with my mrod.

very spectacular to actually see the shock wave from
the shot with a nice heart palpitation. Shocked

i don't know how my dad survived nam much less
a whole tour with a ma' deuce as his "issue".

a good terrorist is a dead terrorist. Twisted Evil

They operate in cells. That means that if one dies the other one probably doesn't even get to know about it.
