Hello, I am new to this forum. I am 14 yrs old, and my arsenal is hungry for a new gun. I currently have a Crosman 760 (My favorite) a Mp5 sd3 airsoft gun, and a tarus airsoft replica, I find airsoft guns are expensive, inaccurate, and break very easily.
So obivously I regret those purchases, but, it was a learning experice I guess.
I have really been wanting a "Real" airgun, my 760 isn't cutting it anymore, everyday I shoot I find how much smaller it feels when shouldering it. And I don't think I treated it very well over the winter, it shoots a little to the left. Again, I can learn from that.
But since I don't ever purchase anything without alot of reasearch, i'm having a hard time deciding what gun is the best for me. (Although I'm having a equally hard time getting the money )
I am really hoping you guys can help me out.
1. From reading what you have what would you reccomend right off the bat?
2.In your opinion what is the best rifle for under 200$?
3. have you ever shot a TEch force 89? if so, what are your feelings on it?
4. The benjamin bluestreak, 397, and 392, a timeless classic, is it still such after crosman got there hands on it?
5.Targets. Homemade, premade, whichever, what is a tough, and cheap target/design of a target, and what about these "Gamo Cone target traps" and how much FPE can they withstand before crumpling?
I can't think of anything more- although if I had all day I could write on forever I suppose. Anything more you guys want to add please do so. The more information the better. |

I don't know about everyone else but giving advice on a rifle to a 14 year old seems a bit wrong.
I'd maybe bring your Dad on and have him ask what would be best for you. Kind of a liability problem here.
Also I wouldn't put it past some anti-gun types to purposely ask questions like this to see what happens and then report on it. |

My dad is a drunk redneck that I haven't seen since I was.. I don't know, obivously long enough ago that I don't remember. So I guess that's out of the question. But you can atleast be a bit more helpful- and saying what you think is a good gun isn't encouraging me to buy one. I've gotten more usefullness out of yahoo answers- and that's saying something. I just want a opinion. |

Now now, you can expect people to be a bit like that. We can't sniff our keyboards and know about your home situation. Sorry to hear that though, that really sucks.
As a forum we do have some guidelines we stick to and you're the youngest aboard (as far as I know) so you might do well to watch your tone, as not to plant bad seeds. You're new to this community and you might want to read around a bit first, although I am beginning to get the feeling you already have.
Do try to understand, we don't like drama here. You seem a reasonable guy (you have some knowledge on FPE and there are a ton of people out there who haven't got a clue so there's a big plus) and I do hope we'll all get along.
Now, if you're as patient as you seem reasonable you're still reading, and we're not half as bad as we appear (well maybe sometimes we are ).

Something European. It's where I come from, and Al(stone) too. Only good stuff from over here.

Not European, well, maybe a Gamo. Oh wait, best rifle under 200 bucks? Well it sort of depends on what you want to do with it.
| KainBullet wrote: |

The Tech Force 89 is based on the QB88. It's not really powerfull (8-9 Fpe?) but I'm guessing it wasn't designed for the powerhouse purpose anyway.
I think you are looking for this:
http://www.pyramydair.com/p/rws-34-panther-air-rifle.shtml
It's a bit cheaper then it's wooden stock sister, but it's pretty much the same weight and balance. I'm not sure how tall you are, but this rifle will probably last longer then you. Some of the rifles I've owned were twice as old as me and still shooting like new, probably even better, and some of them were RWS/Diana's.

I'm not much for a pumper so I would recommend that if you want one, you do not ask me.

Get a steel plate on an angle. If you ever decide to upgrade to a .30 Airgun (or bigger) you'll have something to really dent it. Until then you're probably good.
I've owned one of these Gamo things and when I went over 18 Fpe I started to get really decent dents, then holes. The Diana I mentioned does about 16 Fpe tops so it's all good. |

Sorry for snaping- but failure to pass on information tends to push my buttons.
Yeah, I try to know what I'm talking about, and I take much enjoyment in researching things, so I usual DO know what I'm talking about.
And about the Gamos, the 35$ for a GRT III trigger and the tendiency that they have no open sights, and there inculded scopes suck, turns me away from them.
And the Tech Force 89 is actually 19 FPE on average, you might be thinking of the 78 (I think that's what it is)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=maTIQ3o-DsA
(The techforce 89 with chronograph tests)
And then the 34.. Again. I decided on that first, but tryed to find something better because of the price. Money is REALLY tight.
Well, I'll just have to work towards that and stop plugging my ears going "Lalalalala" every time it is reccomended to me.
Thanks for the feedback. |

What about the Ruger Airhawk/blackhawk? anyone have experice with those? They claim to be a nice clone of the RWS 34, and at half the price, you can't go wrong. Or can you? Being made in china it has some harsh claims agianst, will it do well with some target shooting/plinking/bird hunting? Some birds are "Depositing" unwanted goods on my moms car- and I might just have to learn how to hunt here.
Another question that's been ticking on my mind- does the "artilery hold" work while standing up? I currently don't have a rest, or a bench, or anything to even make a makeshift sort of thing, and with all that power in a magnum springer comes inaccuracy when not holding the gun right. |

Welcome to AGH.
I'm sure Eric will lock this thread when he gets a hold of it. You need to have some kind of parental permission to be on here (or be 18+). I had to do the same, myself being 16.
Save up... get a Diana 34. I see you've read the forum a bit, as Broom pointed out. I don't deem it necessary to repeat myself nor the conversations for the tenth time.
About the Gamo trap... I have one and it takes .22 CPH (20ish fpe at muzzle) from my Super Streak at 10-50 yards and has held up. Hits on the rim that hold the paper, dent it quite a bit. The trap itself dents a bit, but has yet to fail. I like it, and is my preferred target holder. Usually, due to my poor marksmanship, the 100 targets it comes with is plenty. By the time you run through them, the trap should be about done. |

Seems kind of odd, everywhere else I go, the forums welcome and imbrace you and try to encourage- yet this one is completely nazi agianst anyone under the age of 18. I don't really care though. I've atleast gotten two or three answers out of this forum. I'm not going to stay around. It's your guys forum you keep it how you like I guess. |

... ... It's not that you're under age... it's that in this society people get sue happy when they throw sh!t into the fan, expecting roses to come out. The forum owners and administrators are covering their rear ends.
Just have parental permission to be here, and you're more than welcome to stay. |

Right. Right. Sorry for snaping AGAIN but being treated without the benifit of the doubt annoys me- just because my father is useless doesn't mean my mother doesn't know what shes doing- I do have permission to post and research on forums for a good decision on a rifle. And for the sake of it I do have "adult supervison".
But jeez I didn't think those four words you cause such distress- can we please get back on topic here? Ahem.. The Airhawk, is it a good beginner rifle? I plan to get employed in some way within a year or so, so it's not going to be my last airgun.
I think I'd have to spend more time trying to get a extra hundred bucks for the RWS 34- then I would spend shooting it till I could afford something way better anyways. And what about the "daisy 953 rifles" they are supposed to be 10 meter rifles, but are they accurate at longer ranges? |

Save up... the D34 will last you a long time.
The (Crosman) Sheridan pumpers still shoot well, and are a good choice also. I like how the .20 cylindricals perform targets "prone to flying". The flatter nose hits like a wadcutter, penetrates like a dome, and carries energy very well. It penetrates enough to reach vitals from odd shots, doesn't ice-pick like .177, or blow things apart like a .22.
EDIT: put Benajmin originally... meant Sheridan. |

| Look, calling us nazis because we are following specific guidelines to maintain OUR membership here, and the fact that you seem quick to "BE SNAPPY" and then apologize again and again tells me that you aren't mature enough to own/operate an airgun!!! And if that makes you be 'snappy' well just snap away..You are SUPPOSED to have parental permission OR be 18 years of age to be here---...you are NEITHER one..therefore you should not be here.....tough world we're all living in.. I'd truly hate for anything to happen to this forum, as I am a daily visitor and look forward to it each day!! simple really............. |

Apparently reading the user agreement was too much work for a 14-year-old.
Or, perhaps all us "Nazis" just don't get it. Either way, our young friend needn't waste his time... |
