Got this one on one of my feeders on the edge of my yard and our field. about 20 yards. Just used a cheap, Crossman Storm XT .177. Quick dispatch with a headshot

( The squirrels hind quarters were cleaned and are in the freezer. Fur is being brain tanned and tail hair is being used for tying flies ) The rest of the squirrel is in our "Game" deep freezer and will be used to hunt over for Coyotes / fox with my .223 one of these weekends )

Doing a "Fur on the hide" tan.. ( I keep pelts ), also.. using the rest of the remains to hunt over means I will be taking them in the field and using it for bait, for coyote. And, I fly fish alot ( for Brown Trout ), the hair on the tail makes a very nice material for fly tying.

I wouldn't think there would be enough brain to tan the hide of a squirrel.

Every animal has just enough brain matter to tan its own fur. Im sure there are a couple exceptions, but squirrels arent one of them.

Interesting...never heard of that before.I was at Howarth park yesterday up in Nor Cal,and we saw a couple.I had a sack of sunflower seeds,so I tossed a few out there.Within 20 minutes they were everywhere.. Shocked These little guys just came right up to me.A couple even got up on the bench with me,and stood up waiting for a hand out.I could have probably hand fed them, but wouldn't..."I like my fingers".Never been that close to squirrels before. They were pretty fat too... Shocked

Yeah, squirrels at our local park will eat out of your hand if you sit there long enough w/food coaxing them...pretty entertaining to watch.

Speaking if tails..... I posted this once before. Mepps buys squirrel tails for making fishing lures. Just go to thier website for details.

Sounds like bare handed hunting to me.

No perverted jokes, Sniper... chokin' a squirrel, much?
