Look for a Sheridan. I think .20 is a great pumper caliber.

Don't you think that recommending a Sheridan to someone talking about a Daisy Grizzly is quite a jump in price? I mean from around $50.00 to $180.00 and up. Yes the Sheridan is a good pump but not every one gets to start with the expensive guns some of us have limited resources for new hobbies.

I don't know much about pumps as I had a Benjamin 392 for a while but that is all. Here is a link to Pyramydair.com where you can read some reviews and compare the pumpers. Maybe it will help.

i have a power modded benji .22 392. 25+ fpe and LOUD!!
that's with 14 pumps. Twisted Evil

but, with only 6 pumps it runs 650 fps/14.3.

what's your budget? i have around $300 tied up in mine. Cool

3 easy pumps is 500fps/14.3. good for cans out to 20 yards.

If airgunsforfun is talking about using the proceeds of a garage sale to buy an airgun, then we are talking about the Grizzly.

In that price range there are probably two options; the Daisy Grizzly and the Crosman 760. Both are plastic and sheet metal construction. Both are smoothbore, and shoot both pellets and steel BB's. Both have about the same size stock. Both will accept a scope. Triggers are about the same feel. Probably about the same accuracy. The Grizzly is a single stroke pneumatic, and slower (but maybe easier). The 760 can be made faster with multiple strokes (but maybe a little harder to operate). I would call it a draw.

Either the 760 or the Grizzly will work for backyard or basement plinking, but not much else. They can certainly be fun, but I think you'll outgrow them pretty quick. If you can make it to the $100.00 mark there will be more and better choices.

If the Grizzly is truly your price range, then I would say go for it and have fun.

Almost forgot - if a pistol would serve your needs as well as a long gun, consider the Beeman P17 or the Crosman 1377.

I took the liberty of moving this thread out of the "want to buy" section.

Just for the heck of it, I took a Daisy 845 and a Crosman 66 down to the range in the basement. (The Daisy 845 is the Grizzly with peep sights; I shot the Crosman with open sights.) Both are smoothbore, and both were shot with Crosman Premier hollow points like you would find at Walmart. The range was 10 meters from a rest. The Daisy is a single-stroke pneumatic, and the Crosman multiple-stroke - I gave it two pumps to be sure the pellet would clear the barrel:

Accuracy was a wash:

The triggers felt about the same. The Crosman has a wider loading port, and was way easier to load than the Daisy:

If you can pull it off, you can get some decent break barrel rifles around 90-110 bucks. I know that's kind of high for garage sale money, but my first break barrel was a crosman storm XT and it was worth every dime in my opinion. I still shoot it alot even though I like CO2 rifles and pistols better personally. Good luck!!! Smile

He's right. Here's an example: This is my son's Gamo Young Hunter. it was a $90.00 rifle with a $25.00 scope. Same pellets and range as before. (The gun has not been tuned.) More power, more accuracy, easier to load, and more durable.

Academy stores are selling the Accuair Force break barrel .177 pellet rifle for $49.00. We bought one and it seems quite well made (surprise), accurate and powerful. You would need to clean it as it will probably have oil or grease all over it.

I know it is Turkish made. As it says so on it etched into the metal with a hand held electric etcher but the etching really looks kind of special like attention to detail and pride of workmanship.
