Haven't been around all that much past month or two. Job hunting, holidays, daughter's b-day 2 days before Christmas and all that jazz. Ran myself into the ground, ended up with walking pnemonia right before New Years. Spent the next few weeks in bed self medicating.

During this time I got some not so good news. My mother didn't leave a will. Odds are I'm going to loose the house I'm staying in. Soooo I've been hustling, by selling just about everything I don't absolutly need. I'll need as much of this cash as possible to get my truck more road worthy as well as moving expense.

While some of my friends don't exactilly agree with me, some, including my ex can see my logic when I tell them, since I'm moving, I'm gonna take a big leap and move out of the city to a more rural area. While pay won't be as good as it is here in the city, I can supplement my living expences by doing a bit of gardening and hunting. It is because of the latter issue that I am seeking advice.

When I bought my discovery back in october, it came with the foot pump. Sadly, I can see why it was sold. Try as I might, I just don't have the physical ablity to get the pressure any higher then 1400psi.

When I was last here it was suggested that I should get a scuba tank, then a second smaller tank for field use. Reason being is the scuba tank will come in at a psi of 3000. I would then need an adapter from the scuba tank to the smaller tank which will have a rating of 2000psi...matching that of the discovery's recommended rating. So from this second smaller tank I'd need yet another adapter to transfer air from this tank to the discovery.

Add it all up it looks like this...

$200 + tax for scuba tank
$125 + shipping for smaller tank
$55 + shipping for scuba yoke
$55 + shipping for discovery fill adapter

That comes to $435 total, probably another at least $50 for shipping the valves and the smaller (53cu inch) tank from jd air.

I just cannot afford to do all this now. Not when I need $800 to fix my trans along, not to mention banking some money to get a rental and all that jazz.

I can only think of two options, but I don't know if they are possible.

Option #1 The least expensive. Get a 62cu inch tank that JD sells for $143 and the discover fill adapter. I just don't know if my local scuba shop can fill these tanks or not.

Option #2 Get the scuba tank and yoke, and perhaps a short piece of braided hose, and fill the rifle straight from the scuba tank. I'm not so sure about this, because I'm not sure how I'd drop the pressure of the scuba tank at 3000psi down to 2000psi. I don't want to turn my rifle into a bomb!

Suggestions?

Thanks,

Jax

Hey Jax great to see yer an't fallen of the edge of the earth... Laughing

It is possable to use the scuba tank at 3000psi...
filling by just cracking the tank valve it will fill very slowly
and with a good gauge you can close the valve at any point..

I can fill to any pressure with in 100psi that way...

forget all the fancy BS...
Just a tank & fill station with a big gauge thats easy to read...

Nice to hear from you Jax.

I'd go with the SCBA tank, and fill the gun straight from it. Don't forget the microbore hose. The gun should get at least 20 shots from a fill, and I don't know about you, but that's at least 10 critters in the bag for me.

What yokes are you guys using? I was looking at the one form JD Air. Seems to me that it would be handy to have a short piece of pressure hose to connect to the rifle.

You will lose a bit of air on each fill because you have to bleed down the hose.... but I personally use a flex hose.... I found it difficult to keep the gun aligned with the rigid Foster fitting on the end of the clamp.... If it's not aligned, it's difficult to remove.... JDS sell flex hoses from 6" and up so just order one with the fill clamp.... I would get a short one....

I used a 12" brake hose.... but it's longer than you need and the bore is bigger than it needs to be.... so it's wasteful of air.... (but it was cheap).... I've heard of a few people having problems with brake hoses swelling.... If they do that stop filling IMMEDIATELY and throw out the hose.... I haven't had a problem....

Thanks for the tips guys. I was hoping to move on this, this week, deal I had arranged to sell some stuff kinda fell through, so I just have to be patient.

Donec,

It's a question of costs to fill your tank vs usage. If you don't use your ag's often, I sappose one of those small tanks is okay. That's roughly what I was talking about as using for a "field fill" tank.

Think about this Donec, a scuba tanks costs around $200, and can be filled to 4500psi (more on this in a bit). If that benji tank will fill your disco 6-8 times, think how many more times you could fill it from the scuba tank. And the cost is actually the same to fill either one. So there's a major savings if you either are a long distance from a fill station or do alot of shooting.

Also something to concider. Those local places that will fill paintball sized tanks, will only fill them to 850psi.

rsterne,

re adding a hose... I was thinking it would be very difficult to attach the rifle to that "hard point" on the yoke. I was thinking along the lines of a 12" braided flex hose, such as sold over at jd air. When I do order the yoke and hose, are there any other bits I'll need, or is it a matter of just taking the quick connect off, adding the hose and then adding the quick connect to the end of the hose?

RE scuba pressures... I acutally sent John at JD air an email asking these same very questions. His reply was that he, himself has no issues filling his ag's straight from the yoke and his tanks are filled to 4500psi. Now that makes me wonder, what pressure are you all having yours filled to? I thought the all were done at 3000psi.

SCUBA tanks are for the most part 3000 psi.... SCBA tanks (like firemen use) are Carbon fibre and fill to 4500 psi.... MAKE SURE you can get a 4500 psi fill locally BEFORE you buy a tank (same thing for 3000, but easier to find)....

To fit the hose, remove the female Foster fitting and the double male adapter and replace the adapter with the hose.... Use 2 wraps of teflon tape to seal it if the hose doesn't have tape already on it (looks like it might)....

I felt like you were looking for a filler tank something that you could take with you and maybe keep in the car. I don't think one of the benji's would for the main reserve as you would be taking it to be refilled all the time. For my own use if and when I get a disco I am thinking about buying some co2 bottles for just plinking and close shooting and then later getting a medium sized or pony scuba tank for regular use.
