I have been experimenting with several diff pellets. Initially when I first got my Gamo I used the standard hunting pellet and had decent accuracy. I sighted my gun in at 20 yards and was pleased. If I step back 40yards (I realize this is a fairly long shot for an airgun) I noticed that the pellet is rising 2 feet from the 20 yard zero. Will a heavier pellet fix this problem? I have read a little bit about heavier pellets but am curious what everyone else's opinion was on this topic.
I also am curious if a 17 fireball bullet would work in my gamo (not sure if the .007 would make that much diff)? It is a 25 grain bullet.
Any help or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I think you've discovered anti-gravity.... Even a .22 LR would require a scope mounted 3" above the bore (twice the normal height) to achieve 2 INCHES higher at 40 yards than at 20 yards....

| Guess so......It just seems to me a heavier pellet would stablize the trajectory. What's your advice on the heavier pellets? |

Sorry, I haven't a clue.... "Normal" pellets drop as the range increases.... I've never come across your problem....

Mmmm... it doesn't necessarily work that way. A heavier pellet may give you more consistency from shot to shot velocities... for that matter, a tighter fitting pellet might provide the same benefit, either with a probable trade off in lower velocity.
Every spring piston airgun has a pressure curve, which is relatively fixed. The fit of the pellet, the weight and the length of the barrel all have an effect on velocity, accuracy and how well that pressure curve is being utilized.
The basic idea is that the pellet leave the muzzle at or very near the peak of the curve.
Perhaps the best thing for you to do is to download Chairgun Pro from Hawke Optics... then you can see what various pellet trajectories would look like. http://www.hawkeoptics.com/us/chairgun/index.php
