I want to test the range of my Beeman. What's a good distance to test if you have an accurate .22 caliber break barrel rifle? How far out should I expect to hit targets?

I bagged a crow at 46 yards away, and 35 +/- feet up a tree with my stock Storm XT (7.9 CR pointed hunting pellet). I would expect that you could use that as a starting point for the Beeman .22 and work your way out in say 10 yard increments..if you have a place that you could do that.
Just my $.02 worth.

Well, I finally made it out to the range today and tried 100 yds. with the Beeman .22 cal. Definitely do-able if I had better optics w/Mil-Dot and a spotting scope. I shot at the paper target maybe 15 times. I hit the target 2 times but, I don't know at what aiming point I hit them due to poor binoculars. I couldn't see the holes at that distance (I'm definitely gonna need that spotter now Smile ). Oh, well Idea maybe one of these days my scope will break and then I can get that Mil-Dot. Until then, it's 75 yds on back.

BTW, I got to test the velocity thru a chrony
SHOT # / VELOCITY
1 - 687.04
2 - 677.54
3 - 682.50

Avg Speed: 682.36fps w/14.3 gr. pellets Ft/lb.= 14.782

OR...we could work out a deal where you sell me your old scope (cheeeeeep since it's no good Laughing ) then you take that money to help get you whatever upgraded scope you want...I use Paypal...if you waited for it to "accidentally break" ya wouldn't get anything for it.....send me a picture along with a description..we might can do business, seriously. I just ordered a Tech Force 6 (assault rifle) and it doesn't come with a scope..Hell at 800fps (.177) and only $47.95 I couldn't resist.

Out of curiosity..what is the "claimed" fps figure for your Beeman?? anywhere close to actual?
And what about you selling me that ol' tired wore-out scope?

you could hit a coffee can at 75 yards with no wind. maybe soda can.

.22 is usually advertised at 800 fps. which really means high 600's.

i've gone out about 50-60 yards open sights with my b-26 (exact same chrony #'s as your beeman).

you can see the pellets land at 100 yards. (the wind is in control by then)

a rifle of that power max's around 50 yards imo.

beyond that you're not grouping, just plinkin'.

as an after thought try this. take a regular cat food can and fill it with water. if you can make it jump that's a good shot.

or (i mentioned in another thread) stomp on a soda can and make it flat.
the multiple layers of metal absorb the energy. THEN THEY FLY!!

this is one reason why i like .22 over .177. it's slower. by the time you're on target
the pellet will more so move the target rather than punch a hole.
with either of these targets if the shot isn't dead on you'll know.

you CAN punch paper. what fun is that. Rolling Eyes

no this is not the .177 vs. .22 debate again. Rolling Eyes

They claim 830 fps. They probably got those numbers with some of that light Gamo stuff or other. I am happy with what I got. I was only expecting about 600 fps. Glad you got you some optics. I was thinking about getting some of those RWS Hobbys to extend my range/velocity a little and see if it gets me pumped Smile I'd love to have more velocity in .22

Yea, you're right. I do a lotta wishful thinking with my .22. I also love plinking Smile

IMO, even with a .22, 100+ yd shots should stay at paper.

i find that my AF Talon will penetrate tin cans at 50 yards with frightening ease, the .20 Beeman RX, and RWS 52 will penetrate the can too but not as cleanly, the Beeman R-10 will dent the can at that range but not penetrate.

none of my guns are 'tuned' all are "box stock".

I've been thinking...that chrony was 5 yards away when I tested my hunter. I just got done watching "the pro's" chronograph their rifles and they are right up to the machine firing. If that's the way it's done, I've got the wrong numbers. I wonder what I'll get if I "do it rite?" At what distance do you guys test yours?? Do I have a point or, not??

it doesn't really matter. i stay 2 feet or so away.

with burners it's usually 15 feet cuz of the muzzle blast.

the "edit" option is disabled.

by "doesn't matter" i mean...

within 10 feet or so... chrony out 30 feet will be slower than 10 feet. enough to measure

all projectiles lose speed the second they meet that atmosphere.

gravity, altitude, air density etc.

Yea, that's what it was set up for, a burnrer. He was shooting his 30/30 behind a "firing line" 15 ft/5yds away from the chronograph so, that's where I shot from. This is one of the vids I watched and, I would love to add this rifle to my arsenal very soon:
