After removing the action from the stock, it appears to me that I need only remove one bolt and a punch pin to remove the barrel.....no need whatsoever for a spring compressor. Would someone, with experience, verify this for me, as it's my first time ever working on any firearm don't wanna start out with a mistake. Thanks in advance.....

Question #2---How do I remove the front sight?? It looks like it just slides over end of barrel?? What does hold it on and how do I remove??

You don't [need to] take the barrel off to change out the spring.

The endcap should screw off and then you would unbolt the trigger group, releasing the spring. DO NOT under ANY circumstances unbolt the trigger group unless the action is well seated into a spring compressor.

NOTE: on my Super Streak (same trigger group and tube design), I needed to use a hole-saw (3/4", or similar) to cut out 1-3 pine spacers that are affixed to one side of your compressor. This may be needed because the trigger group sits forward of the end, and a flat base (on the compressor) will not put it in far enough.

Fritz-thanks for that info..but I'm not changing the spring, ( at least not right now) rather I want to remove the barrel to shorten it 4 inches..I also would like to save the front site if possible, and re-install it on barrel once I get it cut and crowned. Smile

I looked at the frt. sight closely...it came right off with one light tap ! No evidence of any adhesive ..so-will be able to use it again...cool beans...now, about that barrel removal ?? Who can anwer my question??
My gunsmithing buddy tells me he's swamped 'til after first of next year. And even though he'll do it for free, I'm NOT gonna wait..will cut and crown it myself. With the info I've gotten on here, plus some videos I found on a website called "midwayusa" convinced me to just "git 'er dun! " (they also sell lots of gunsmithing tools, and other neat gun stuff.) Anyway, I am a licensed airframe and powerplant mechanic (A&P license) and have 15 yrs. aircraft experience...Not trying to brag on myself, just saying that I ought to be able to cut barrel, square it up and re-crown it...Those videos make it look really simple.............. Cool

The front sight is a pull-off job- it is not screwed or glued on. Use an adjustable wrench, a soft cloth and a hammer. Adjust the wrench so it leaves some space around the barrel, but will rest up against the rear of the sight(put the cloth between the barrel and wrench to avoid scratching things) and tap the front sight off.

The barrel comes off the tube in just the manner you see- one screw and a pin that attaches the cocking arm. You do not have to remove the pin that holds the detent lever in place, however.

By "punch pin" I'm guessing you mean the pivot point for the cocking linkage. On my G1 (similar design) it was a rivet. With your mechanical experience replacing it with a tension pin or shoulder bolt shouldn't be too hard.

The large screw that serves as the pivot for the barrel just unscrews - no fuss. On the G1 I had problems with it loosening in use, so I added a setscrew pressing against the pivot screw's head:

While you're in there you might consider replacing the plastic washers with metal:

The sleeve around the pivot screw also holds the chisel-faced locking plunger captive in the breech block. (Crosman calls it the "alive jam.") It's spring loaded, so be prepared when you remove the sleeve.

Anything you read about the Crosman/Remington/B18-B19 break barrels is going to apply to your gun (excluding the Nitro and Benjamin models).

Should you ever go in the other end definitely use a spring compressor. Even uncocked there is enough preload on the piston spring to cause injury.

Alrighty then....good stuff! I printed a copy of that parts list/teardown . Big help- thanks for that ! yeah what I call "punch pin" is a tension pin, I've always just called it something different. OK , got info I need to carry on. Thanks guys...

Edited @5:52pm to add..barrel came right off...ZERO pressure on the models mentioned above.COOL BEANS !! I already took the barrel off, and shortened by 4 inches..And wouldn't ya know I cannot find my lapping compound, and I looked everywhere. So, will finish it up tomorrow..

Today got the muzzle crowned and polished, looks pretty good to me (just need to get a small bottle of Cold Blue, for the end of muzzle ).. I did four 3 shot groups at 20 yards, to see if I'd messed it up <gulp> each group could be covered with $0.25...yay!!! The instructions I got from this site made it literally a "piece o' cake" !! This site has got to be the best airgun site EVER !!
