Fifteen years ago I bought a Daisy 880 for my son. He didn't have the
same airgun enthusiasm that I did so maintenance was a constant
struggle.
I also have an 880 and I've taken pretty good care of it. I use it to shoot
snakes. It's perfect for that purpose.
I can't count the number of times I found his rifle in the dirt, in the morning,
after rain. The rifle was used and abused, abused being the key word.
It finally ended up in a box in my laundry room.
The kid is 30 now and I asked him what he wanted me to to do with the
rifle. He said, "Throw it in the dumpster."
I nearly did just that, but as I was tossing it, I noticed that the shoulder
stock was busted, and the breach was cracked beyond repair, but all
the parts seemed to be there. I figured, what the heck, let's see what
we can do with this thing.
First, sawed off the shoulder stock. Then, took a look inside. All the
parts there, so I did a little jigging and juggling and make it work.
What you see below is the result. I haven't cronied it yet, but it seems
to be hitting pretty good.
One other thing. This is the last fix this little beauty is getting. Why?
Because I used about a gallon of the greatest invention in the world to
get it to this point. Yes, JB Weld. I won't take this rifle apart again unless
I cut it. I probably could have done a better job., but, quite frankly, I've
spent enough time on this thing.
Note: It is surprisingly accurate when I hold it when the heel of my
right hand is mashing toward the left against my (rather large) nose.
I'm actually quite pleased with it and I believe I can get another couple
of years out of the old girl.
