It's a stupid idea and could more easily cost someone their life than save it.

Why? You need the firepower to stop someone cold; Airguns shooting larger caliber projectiles will will mean Co2 or PCP, which, if left laying under the bed for weeks or months could bleed out, leaving nothing left to shoot with if/when the time comes.

How many people really need "home defense" anything? Everyone around here live in South Central or something? Paranoia is generally a bigger problem than most scenarios that actually require "home defense". Too many people are nervous and uptight over nothing.

Good point Eric. And this topic has been discussed a number of other times before Snowbunny.

I mean, OF COURSE an airgun could be used as a defensive gun against another person. But it's not going to be as effective as a firearm obviously.

However, most airguns can't be stored in a ready-to-rock-n-roll type fashion. Whereas a 357 pistol can be stored loaded and ready to fire at all times. So if someone breaks into your house are you really going to turn on a light, grab your springer and pellets, and load a .177 in it to shoot the intruder one time?

Me, I'd just grab my samurai sword. Save my airgun ammo for the birds.

IF you had time to load a co2 into my 1077 and ten shots to the face neck area would pretty well discourage someone coming in a window. I store all my co2 guns with a cartridge upside down in the cylinder so pull the cap switch ends and tighten, but in all reality my 357 mag would pretty much screw anyone up petty quick Twisted Evil

when I was single I used to keep the mag by my bed my wife tolerates the AG's but doesn't want the mags or shotguns laying around

my wife is used to guns in all parts of the house. Cool

an AR here, a shotgun there. i'm never more than 6 seconds from a .45. Mr. Green

they're in lockdown when we're not home.

everyone who can should keep protection in the house.
be it a firearm, mace, bball bat.
just like a seat belt. unnecissary until it's not.
or like a condom. i'd rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. Mr. Green

and regarding eric's comment about "who really needs protection anyway".
That nice house in the suburbs, with kid toys all over.
is a crminal magnet. they will assume cause of the kids that the guns will be put up. a 200thousand dollar house has more resellable goodies in it, than my 30thousand dollar trailer.
more and more crooks from the cities are doing their dastardly deeds in the suburbs, where people "think" they are safer.
most time they are actually much more vunerable.
if someone does do a home invasion to you at 3am. it's to late to think"how will i protect my family".
calling the police is good, butt how would you hold off a group of 3 or 4.
for 15-45 minutes until help arrives.
being prepared and being paranoid are 2 differnt things. but not too far apart.
those stickers people put on their cars showing the whole family.
all they have to do is follow you home and wait until what they think is the right moment. they already know how many people to expect to see.
stupid and dangerous.

true ton, the beach and the hill where i live is home invasion country.

people don't lock their doors or windows because they are in a "pricey" area. exactly. no matter where you are in LA. an acre on the hill or at the beach, you are never more than 10 miles from the ghetto.

rich people hire gardners, trades people, maids.

i can go on with some stories i know where i live.

i'm always armed. i'm never paranoid.

the pricy area's hold the most goodies.
why would a crook with 1/2 a mind(oxymoron), want to rob another low income residence. they only shoot the other crooks there(competition).
the "safe" neighborhood would be more lucrative.and probably less dangerous.
now i don't want to burst no ones bubble. but if you don't protect yourself no one will.
the CPI security commercials are a joke. i just about laugh my butt off whenever i see one.
i have much respect for cops. they have a tough job i don't want.
butt many times, they are only there after the fact. they (hopefully), will catch the crook, and be able to prosecute.
butt, by then you're dead.

if an airgun looks like a real gun. it may work as a visual deterent.
