Well it will be when I get it finished, this is just for settings but it does work very well 20mm groups at 20m.

!?!?!
Have you been bending spoons again Al!!
I find peep sights more better, Especially on the eye.
I can't wait to see what the Finnished "Sophisticated" one looks like!!
Will it have a windage and elevation adjusters on it??

Don't lean on it or you'll always be off target!
How are you planning to fasten the completed unit to the gun? |

To fasten it to the gun were going up market with black tape! either that or drill and tap the tang to accept it. It will have both elevation and windage adjusters but I'm not sure yet which type of sight to make. either the piller type or a sliding frame. The machanics of a piller sights are quite complicated, every thing is buried inside the piller, where as with a sliding frame sight everything is visible and easy to make, but the view above the sight is limited, plus I don't require a lot of elevation as the probable maximum accurate range of a Umarex Winchester is at the most 30m.

Well I finally decided to make a pillar tang sight, I have not been able to find a design for one of these only photographs which do not show the workings, so I have used my own design, there can be only a few ways of getting the sight to adjust up and down without twisting and this is my solution, if you have got any better way or know how Lyman or Marble’s have solved this problem please let me know.
PS:
My son was in New York last week and he asked me if I wanted anything bringing back, so I asked him to see if he could get me a Tang Peep Sight to fit a 1894 Winchester, after a bit of hunting around the city he found a shop who had one in stock a Marble unit for $119.99, it goes without saying he told them to keep it. So thats how I came to have a Dime as a comparison in one of the photo's

That's pretty neat. Once you mount it and test it out- can we see some more pictures?
And- what is that? Looks like a valve lifter out of an engine. |

What is what ? if you mean the last photo it's the pillar with a peep disc fitted
Yes I'll do a full set of photo's but first I have to make the base unit which should take a few days.

Hey Al
I'm no expert with cars but I do know a bit on motor bikes.
I think AirGunEric was trying to say that your pillar tang sight design looks similar to a valve lifter.
Good work Alstone!!

Essentially- yes. The casing of the pillar looks like it may have been an engine valve lifter- before the "guts" were removed and the knurling put on it! |

Hi Stevie, yes thinking about it it does look like a bit like a Camaro valve unit, but there again there's not many people who would reconized one apart from an Expert like Eric.

Not "my" other website- I have no ownership interest in it. I was one of the founding members and later became an Administrator to assist in keeping the place running. If I had any sort of $$$ ownership on the place- I could fund airgunhome.com easily and not even notice it- that place generates a good amount of pocket change.
Anyways- I'll wait for those pictures, I want to see how it looks all assembled and functioning on the gun! |

Hi AirGunEric
I probably could have said that last post of mine a bit better.
I know that you don't "own" the site but you have certainly contributed to it since 1999, It probably would be nice for the owner to give a bit of a tip to the Admins and Mods that contribute to it considering the amount of income that site produces, Though I believe that one day AGH will become self sufficient, Finding how to achieve this "Holy Grail" is going to be the hard part though.
