6-14-09 I shot my first FT match.I found out two things for sure.
#1 it is hard as hell
#2 you need a big scope not a Bug Buster.
I attended my first ever Field target Match with a lot to be learned. It was unknown to me who I was teamed up with,,, 2 time FT national champ 5 time FT state champ Jeff Padock of Ohio.
3 targets in each lane(10 lanes) 2 shots at each target.Targets are set at #1 target 10-15 yds
#2 target 20-40 yards #3 target 45-55 yards. There up in trees on the ground and on stumps.Kill zones are 3/8" to 1" .
Out of 60 shots I killed 9 WTF? ??? I couldn't even see the kill zone.bullseye with the BugBuster(my Bad)Mean while my partner only missed 5,,, Geez I'm think who the hell is this guy?? ( I never met him and did not know he was a champion shooter)
Lesson learned never use a Disco set up for 10m indoor shooting for Field Target Matches, get your self a big azz scope at least X24 but 32 is better with a 50-56 mm lens, and practice shooting dimes at 10-55 yards from the sitting position.
There's another match in July,I'll be there and ready to give Jeff a run for his money LMAO ! ! !
Click here for some pictures of the match in progress.Non of me I was the guy taking the pictures.

From the tone of the responses, it sounds like you're in with a good bunch of people. Have fun.

It’s hard work Bob, I’ve done it a few times with variable results but like you say you have to set yourself up for it with the right gear. I used my TX with a 12x scope which was ok for the 10-25m targets but the scope let me down on the 25+ targets.

We shoot standing, sitting, kneeling and laying down, the sitting and kneeling I find ok but the rest I have trouble with. A good day out though.

Al

I shot in my first this spring and I really had a good time and I am looking forward to this fall. But like you I had the little scope my 22xx came with and I bought a leapers that is totally awesome, its almost as long as the gun but with the lighted reticle it is great, good luck Howard

Great pictures and an interesting write up, I guess I need to do a bit of googling and see what I can find out about this FT stuff. I have no idea if anybody's doing this anywhere near me. (Western Arkansas)

Sounds like a hell of a lot of fun! Very Happy

Buster check out the sportsman clubs, rifle ranges in and around your area I know there are a lot of air gunners in your neck of the woods(AK).You may want to post this question on the Yellow Forum mostly USA members.

I am sure you will get many responses there as to where you can shoot FT in your area.
It is a blast and very challenging.

tim (mac-1) said the marauder is accurate enough to qualify for USFT.
