I've read a few articles about combustions and how a little bit of dieseling with every shot happen swhen a wee bit of oil combusts and adds to the power of a rifle.

One article on PyramidAir mentioned Corn Oil can raise the velocity of a rifle by up to 100fps. mmmm. I was sceptical of trying it, thinkng that maodern tolerances, synthetic seals and silicone oil are problably superior already.

But, off to the market i go Rolling Eyes

Stupid velocity for the first few shots then about 10 that were 100 above my average. I let the rifle sit for a few minutes and shot anothr round of 10 and the velocity was right back to normal.

So, from what I can see theres no benefit. I do recall reading that it takes time and many shot for the parafins in the oil to fill fine tooling scratches in the chamber, we'll see Neutral

Only benefit in the short term is that my garage now smells like someone was popping popcorn over an open fire, YUM Laughing

And you just want higher fps? Try crosman silver eagle's, they fly fast without dieseling and are absolutely not accurate:)
Shot them with my phantom, they brake soundbarrier.
So you can have all the dieseling bonuses like speed and sound effect without killing your spring/piston seal.

Ya i ve tried the silver bear hollow points they are acctually not bad in my phantom.

Its not just velocity, they had mentioned improved power consistency as well.

Vegetable oils thin out faster than mechanical-type oils. Once you've shot the gun a number of times (and generated heat) the corn oil becomes very thin, almost like water in consistency. Vegetable oils also diesel, so if it thins out and spreads, moving into the chamber- that could explain part of the 100fps gain (the other part, at least for the short term might be no lube 'drag' on the parts with the very thing oil). That being said, I don't imagine any of this is going to be very good for the longevity of the rifle.

Why not skip the corn oil and buy a Mendoza?

Those are designed to diesel and have a hole in the compression tube for adding oil. Then again, I've seen repeatedly dismal accounts of their accuracy. From what I've heard, heavy dieseling such as you describe is not good for the piston seal or spring. Plus, that corn oil's residue is going to burn into your barrel. Gives a new meaning to "seasoning". Guess you could remove it with oven cleaner? Smile

RE "Buy a Mendoza"

I'm going to try the corn oil and call my Phantom a "Mazola" Laughing

I have the (Crosman) Mendoza RM577, and it has the little hole. I'm not convinced the gun was "designed to diesel." There's nothing in the Mendoza web site to indicate that, anyway. I think another equally plausible explanation is that it is a holdover from when they made leather seals, which did need oil. (Mendozas also have a little felt wick just behind the piston seal.) Or perhaps it was the easiest way to add a cocked condition indicator (a spot of red paint on the piston shows through the hole when the gun is cocked). The accuracy issue could simply be due to poor manufacturing.

On the other hand, if you wanted a gun to diesel the Mendoza is sure set up to make it happen.
