Here’s a question, do you get more satisfaction out of getting a good grouping / hitting the target using iron sights, or using a scope / red dot sight and putting the pellets through the same hole, the same applies for plinking ?.

It appears to me that as soon as someone gets a new rifle the first thing they do is put a scope on it which is fair enough, but the scope’s get bigger rangefinders are fitted and the target doesn’t stand a chance, the follow on from this is putting a remote control on the gun stick a camera behind the scope and sit in the bar with a beer and a joystick and take a shot between each sip as you watch the monitor.

By the way I realise this does not apply to hunting where the kill is everything.

So come on be honest what gives you more satisfaction. or maybe you cannot get on with one or the other, what ever it is say so.

Hi Al

I usually prefer Scopes more than Iron sights, As I find it difficult to focus on the target at the same time as trying to line up the sights, I find myself focusing back a forth just to make sure, Which can put quite a bit of stress on my eyes, And usually results in a headache!! Hammer Head

Peep sights aren't as bad though!

Also I like the Idea that with a scope I can see the whole target and not just half of it. Wink

Like to see some more opinions though!!

Stevie Thumb Up!

OK, I'll admit it- I don't have the greatest eyes. I've been wearing glasses since I was 10 years old, I need bi-focals and if I stare intensely at anything for more than a few seconds, things start to fuzz up. So- I use a scope primarily. It doesn't fix the problem entirely- but with the magnification factor it does help somewhat.

If I could shoot with open sights effectively for extended periods of time- I probably would- just because I could.

Of course, people keep telling me they have this wonderful "lasik" eye surgery stuff- but I still remember when it first appeared 15-20 years ago and people lost their night vision as a result of it- so I'm a bit leery.

i like open sites for plinking at long ranges at larger targets but i prefer sitting with a scope on an airgun on a windy day and seeing a good grouping after adjusting for the wind and drop at unknown distances

Well, I bet you can't do that at 40 meters. Mr. Green

I have a 40 meter can-penetrator. Mr. Green

By the way, I announce that my "Umi" will get a new scope.

Probably this one:

Best seller in Germany. Mr. Green

Sandman's first picture worked OK- but not the second- now neither are working! Perhaps Photopoint (the site where the images are hosted) has some sort of 'bandwidth' quota and the Scarface video absorbs most of it!
