My AA S410 has factory shroud 19" long...barrel is 15.5 " long...shroud is not as effective as I would like...OD of shroud is 0.625"....can't I just slip an LDC over the shroud that has an ID of 0.626"-0.6247" ??? I could even shorten shroud by say 4.5 " and then attach LDC, to keep O.A.L. to a minimum. I don't see any safety issues here, but just to be sure, I'm asking here..what say ye men??

YES...ldc would be for same caliber as the gun.....

The problem you have packrat is lack of volume in front of the muzzel to kill of the crack when firing, for a .22 at 12 flb you need a LDC 8"long X 1.25" diameter.

As you have a shrouded barrel already you don't need more than a couple of baffels in it.

As I said the key to LDCs is the length in front of the muzzel, if you keep it at 0.625 then you would need 12" at least.

What's an LDC?

"LDC" means (Lead Dust Collector) or a north American term for a silencer, as the word "Silencer" attracts to much controversy over there.

A lot of people think that silencers are illegal in the USA but you can get a licence for one for about $200.00, it must be part of the gun and not removable as far as I understand the law.

Thanks Al....that's the sort of info I needed..On the US version the shroud is "bonded " to the breech apparently, and NOT threaded on the muzzle end. It actually is "neighbor" friendly as is, but I would prefer it to be a few decibels lower......(personal preference) I was thinking if I removed -3 inches(rather than the "4-4.5 " I had posted earlier!) of shroud, and then installed 6" LDC (1" OD) it would provide the desired effect.
I also considered drilling 2 more holes in rear of shroud, to match the existing 2 holes in it (from factory) but have no idea if that would help provide the desired result??? Have any knowledge of how that would work ??

Thank you; I figured out all the other acronyms, but that one had me stumped! I like it, though, very appropriate.

They put these bleeder holes in the back of the shroud to lower the air pressure, this encourages some of the blast/noise to be dissipate into the shroud. Putting extra holes in the shroud may help but it will be a hit and miss operation, if you over do it, it will make the noise louder then you will have to thread the holes and plug them with a screw.

Personally I wouldn’t drill extra holes as it really is a one way trip, with limited ways of reversing the operation.

Just one thought does the shroud have baffles at the front? if not you could try fitting a couple of cone type baffles to encourage the blast to expand in the shroud.

Al

Thanks for the ideas/suggestions..AL- as far as I can see, there are NO baffles in the shroud, other than what appears to be 1 metal washer about 1/3 of the way down......
I asked this same question on the AAOC forum.. found some folks that have shortened their shrouds and fitted "cans" over the front...Evidently this is very effective..and like i said earlier, I prefer the look of the "can" to the full sgroud anyway, so looks like my problem, as it were, is solved..Just waiting on the LDC I've ordered (un-assembled) to get here now Mr. Green Mr. Green Mr. Green

Got the LDC from Charlie, filled it with some lead-dust collecting material and seperated it into 2 chambers.....NOW it is more effective than the Super 10 advertisement as shown on the AOA website ad for BSA guns Cool
Bought 4 1/2 ldc..it slips on over end of shroud...looks so good I'm not even going to shorten the shroud!! You can see it mounted in this picture.....

I looks very European now and the visual balance looks about right, also if it does what you wanted then you’ve got it cracked.

You can chuck all your other guns away now. Mr. Green

Nice job.

It is now MORE "neighborhood friendly" than the advertisement for the BSA Super Ten on the AOA webiste.. truly "mouse fart quiet". And Al, thanks for the compliment about it looking "European" like I said before I really like the looks of the "big can " on the end of barrel..always have. Total cost for all that was less than $30.00-yeah baby !!
