All right.
At the Slavia's suggestion, and many others, I have installed the GRT III by CharliedaTuna. The rifle being modified is a Crosman Quest 1000. Installation appeared easy enough so I installed it quickly. I will not show pictures of this for the new guys because it has been well documented on numerous websites, including Charlie's. There was a major problem. The rifle had no stages with a hair trigger. I'm talking 1/4 lb. hair trigger. Danger, Danger. Applying the safety made the rifle fire! I re-read the installation manual and troubleshooting guide and re-installed. Same problems! So I emailed Charlie. He responded within an hour (awesome customer service by the way). He confirmed that this is not how the rifle should work. He gave me a few more hints on adjustment, but no solution. Being a little miffed about the heavy dieseling the rifle gave me anyway, I exchanged it. Lucky me, it went on sale and I received the $13 dollar difference. Having struggled with the original rifle for hours, I had the GRT III installed in less time than it took me to unpack and remove the cheap plastic gunlock on the rifle. It worked perfectly on this gun! I could now see why the original rifle was having problems. This time it fit in much smoother than on the defective rifle. So, if you are having problems installing this trigger on your rifle, it might be because it's a cheap piece of **** with loose manufacturing tolerences! I have to say Charlie’s trigger is the nicest piece of hardware on the entire machine.
Did it improve performance?
Vastly! I am newb but even my weak skills improved from 2.5" grouping to 1", at 15.5 yards with a cheap Chinese Beeman 4x32 scope. The break is a very light two stage 1.5 lb. estimated pull. Nothing like the mushy break of the original trigger. I can't wait for my Leapers 3-9x32 to arrive. Thanks to all the folks who post encouraging links and tips. It really is quite easy to install provided you don't get an unlucky gun like me. I think I will really be able to turn this rifle into a fun shooter with the tuning I have planned. So if you have a Chinese Gamo or Quest clone this mods for you!
It is quite a difference. I am still not used to how these Springers recoil. I took before and after 15.5 yard pictures of the improvement. Ammo is Crosman hollowpoints.
