Hey,

I just recrowned my phantom which went well, seems my groups have really tightened. I can post pics of what I used and how I did it if anyone's interested in the details.

I put in a grt/gtx drop in gold trigger and I am having some trouble:

saftey now does nothing, well not nothing, it will discharge the gun Shocked
1st stage is nonexsistent.
2nd stage is about 1mm of travel and VERY light
I can hit the stock with my hand and it will discharge Shocked

I'm sure these triggers are great, but I am in need of a diagram so I can understand how to adjust it properly. Right now its uber dangerous. Neutral

Anyone have any ideas, diagrams or tips?

thanks
Smile

I would imagine to max out the weight and travel screws, if they still work.

DO NOT USE THE GUN UNTIL YOU GET THIS ALL FIXED OR YOU WILL BE SORRY.

Here are the instructions for the GRT-III trigger, which includes comments about interaction with the safety (download the pdf):

And adjustment/installation for the GTX trigger (go down to custom-gtx):

Thanks guys,

fritz you are so right, that thing was like a grenade with the pin pulled!

Thanks for the Links Slavia.

I got it worked out, safety was not working b/c the spring for the safety position was bent, bent back , safety now works. You would think this would be checked before it left the crosman factory. Rolling Eyes

Trigger adjustment took a while, messed around until i could feel 2 distint stages and then adjusted it to how I like it; a long first stage followed by a short crisp 2nd.

SO, in total I recrowned, removed the front and rear sites and added a muzzlebreak then added and adjusted the trigger.

Result: after a few practice shots i was able to put 6 shots in a row in a 3/8" group from 25 feet Mr. Green Mr. Green yay, thats the best group i've had yet.

Too bad I can't do it consistently Embarassed.....

Heed the warning in the instructions about partially depressing the trigger and then abandoning the shot. Before, the trigger did absolutely nothing during the first part of its travel, and the strut/sear remained fully engaged.

Now, there is disengagement from the very beginning. Better to re-cock the gun if you don't take the shot.

This place is getting expensive but it's fun. (At least that's what I'll tell myself when I'm sitting alone in the house with no wife but a great AG collection.)

GRTIII Inbound. Mr. Green

As to what Slavia says about trigger depression...

First yeah, he's absolutely right. This can make for a very unsafe condition if you partially depress and then don't take the shot, BUT...

The way the Marine Corps taught me to shoot, was to squeeze when the sight picture is correct and then stop squeezing, "hold what you got" when the sights wander off target. (As they will of course.) This non-returning trigger is actually very helpful to this style of shooting and I achieve great results even with the long and crappy trigger in the Gamos.

I made very sure before I bought the GRTIII that it didn't do away with this feature.

Can't wait to get it in the gun and see what happens.

Which gun are you putting it in Buster?

Yea, i can see why they say not to sit on ahalf pulled trigger. I am teaching myself how to wait until i'm absolutley ready to shoot before taking in the first stage, make any final stabilization and then let the 2nd fly.

Unbelievably light!

very nice.

Hey Buster, whats the difference b/w the crosman Tac 1 the G1 and the phantom.

I read the G1 is 49" ?? Where does the extra length come from?

Pyramydair says 49" but everywhere else I looked said the same as the other two - 44.5." Must be a typo. (My G1 is 44.5.")

Tac-1 is .22, the other two are .177. Phantom has sights, the other two have a scope/brake. That's all the difference there is.

Thanks Slavia, that 49 threw me for a loop, I thought maybe they had the same barrel as the Super streak, but I guess not.

Dahhhh, I dunno! Shocked

I've got 35 years of intense study behind me when it comes to burners, this AG stuff is all pretty new to me although sometimes I come in here and feel like I've gotten a massive data dump (Which is a real blast!) handed to me.

The last Crosman I had any experience with was a Powermaster 66 I bought about 18 years ago, a far cry from what's running around loose out there now.

As to what gun, I'm putting it on a Gamo Big Cat.

I know Gamo doesn't have the greatest reputation but I ended up getting to "cherrypick" a really good gun (long story) and my only complaint with it has been that goofy "two stage" trigger. I guess the two stages were supposed to be "Spongey" with an indefinite progression to "Mushy?"

I'll let y'all know how the trigger swap goes.
