This year I had to projects that I wish come complete. If you've read over in the general forum, I'll be ordering the first one tommaro.
Both projects are based on the 22xx series of Crosman's pistols. The one I'm ordering tommaro will be a work horse "back pack" hunting gun. The one I would like some suggestions and comments on here will be more of a sniper type rifle.
Unlike the back pack gun, the sniper rifle will be based off a 2240 rather then ordering a custom job. I'm doing this because I will be changing so much more then what crosman has to offer.
The first major upgrade will be installing a brass breech from RJ Machine. I've heard good things about these. I may have to wait for one. But that's a major part of this build.
To this my next major upgrade will be adding a Lothar Walther choked barrel. There is a problem with this though. As I understand it, the stock barrel of a 2240 is 7/16" (.4375"). Where as the cloest in diamter barrel from LW is .472". Just a smidge too small. The next smallest barrel made by LW is .591". This means I need to find someone to machine it down to fit the breech properly. It's that or posibly have the breech bored out a bit larger to accept the larger barrel. I'm not sure which would be best here, suggestions?
The trigger group is giving the most head aches. Mainly because I'm not sure that I want to do it myself for fear of having parts going flying. If not that, that I'd have money tied up in barrel, breech, DI bulk system...and then muck up the trigger and not be able to shoot a thing!
I do know that I want a nice, clean, crisp trigger pull. One that doesn't cause a blister if I plan a day of target shooting or pest control. While achieving this, I also want to make sure that the triger assembly is passing the most Co2/HPA as possible per shot.
The ultimate goal of this second project is build the hardest hitting, most accurate rifle possible using the 2240 base pistol and any after market part that can help achieve this.
I know there's a few other bells and whistles that can be added such as a pressure gauge, perhaps even some sort of power aduster could be added as well. But I don't think either of these would affect the final product. But they would be nice additions!
Because I'm looking for precision in this rifle. I'm actually concidering gathering all the parts together, then finding someone of a like mind to do the final assembly and testing/tweaking.
Of course if anyone has any suggestions on how to improve upon what I've already described, I'm all ears. This is still at the drawing board stage. Mind you I've still have the "pistol" to order, build, and tweak.

I've seen improvement of accuracy after the choke was removed from a barrel. It's also important to state that Lothar-Walther barrels aren't that great.
I've read, and heard of inconsistencies, while not much more then on other reliable brands. I have a BSA barrel on my Crosman, and when it shoots, it does really well and isn't very pellet-fussy.
My point, there just might be better barrels on the market that are worth looking into.
There has been a Lothar-Walther barreled pistol on the forum before, if I recall well. |

I think you should ask RJ machine to machine the breech to fit the barrel. They might do it for nothing, or just a small fee, that way when you get the breech it is ready to put right in.
That's if you want to machine the breech. I'd get the barrel done, so that I can put other barrels in there.
You forgot a barrel band, that may be needed. |

I'm just a bit confused. Is lothar-walther the same company that Air force gets their barrels from? Although I would assume if they did, they probably have a special account designed to Air Force's specs.
Besides BSA and Lothar-Walther, who else makes after market barrels for pellet rifles? Which are rated as being of better quality?
After I posted, I got to thinking. Is there any advantage to using a thicker barrel? I did happen to notice that Lothar-Walther made barrels all the way up to .630".
I didn't mention a barrel band because I was thinking of going with some sort of shroud that would hide the machine work required to make the barrel fit the reciever. If it was done right, it would look like one large barrel from the reciever all the way to the end of the barrel.
Keep the suggestions coming!
